View Full Version : Servotronic steering issue on my 89, can't quite debug

I have done what I thought was a good search in this forum but no luck finding an answer so here I am.

The servotroninc steering on my 89 635 used to work fine. Then it came and went for awhile, then it quit working, or so I thought. While driving in the wet at a fairly moderate pace I came around a corner that had a pretty good puddle built up. Hit it at speed with no time to correct and miss it. All of a sudden my servotronic steering is working. It worked for awhile then quit again. Very odd.

I have replaced the small hydraulic valve on the bottom of the power steering box and it still doesn't work.

I also have an 89 735i with a working servotronic system. I wanted to swap the servotronic control module from the 735i to my 635CSi to see if that was the problem. Pulled the module from the 7 but after taking the driver footwell/speaker kick panel off I discovered that this is not where the module lives on the 6.

1. Where is the servotroninc control module located on the 89 635?

2. If it is not the module when I finally swap them out, where would you look next for the solution?

Mechanically I can build a car from the ground up. Electronics is a different story. I can get it done but it just takes more time.

Love the forum and all the great info we share. Will to add to the "bank" whenever I can.

Thanks Guys
