Ok so I had a bunch of work done to the engine and after it was all put back together this little check valve with currently a cap on it the hose that went to it myself not the mechanic or BMW had no idea where or what hose would connect to that? Maybe you can help as you can see I have since capped it off but in capped it sucks in lots of air yet I could not find a hoes that would go to it? Thanks in advance

That hose looks connected on both sides. Where is it leaking?

IIRC that vacuum line goes to the HVAC in the car, but I've never actually seen it in person, so far as I know all US e34s would have had it capped. Shogun or Kalavera would probably be able to confirm.

Oh you mean that vacuum port? It's capped on all mine.

I went through this almost a year ago when I did a complete engine refresh. That is not a hose. It goes nowhere. Don't look for anything to connect it to. I re-fabricated that entire hose section when doing my refresh. That white valve is a one way check valve giving power to the brake booster. It connects to the hose, that at the other end connects to an elbow connector and then a plastic washer that gets pushed into the brake booster. That little rubber thing is a cap. If there is a hole in it, replace it. It is available. Get the part number from OEM. I put a new one on mine. It covers up a small piece of plastic with a hole in it. You can blow in to it but not out. We found out that it is only used in Europe for some sort of MOT testing. All M30's in the USA have the little rubber cap on it and there is never a reason to remove it. Picture below.

P.S. I just thought of one more thing to add here. In the early 90's BMW manufactured this car as well as mine (original owner 1990 735I).....with two different intake manifolds. One with this port for the valve and one without. If you don't have this hose port for the brake booster you'll have the older brake booster set up with the infamous BMW Nitrogen Ball. I had that on my E23 83 733I. Only other thing I can think of that they changed and I don't know what year it was......was the EML. My car has the old throttle body. Two wires.....one to the gas pedal and one to the cruise control. I know EML was added later and my contraption of wires for power does not exist on those cars. This is my finished product.................

Oh and my build date is 9/90 So i am pretty sure I do not have this Ball you speak of haha lol One thing i wish it had was its own clutch Reservoir its not like it takes up much room! Speaking of that My slave blue up the other day So i am looking to actually turn it into a major fix and replace the Slave and Master And the Clutch itself In addition to a full brake job new rotors pads etc AND replacing the AC compressor AND the cat since its choking to death and i hear parts of cat flopping around in there when its running ... Sigh I think i am trying to kill myself here lol This should be a eventful few weeks haha. Thanks again ;)

You're welcome. Sometimes it's good to see what an M30 looks like while you're tearing the crap out of it. This is a thread I posted many months ago on the E32 board. Called it "From Start to Finish". Tells you what a friend and I did, and it might give you an idea what you're dealing with. Although mine is an Automatic.....my build date is 12/89. I bought it 2/90. It wasn't too shabby that my friend worked for Vista BMW for about 30 years.

Hey, do you remember when someone posted that valve under the steering column and it had a vacuum port running to it? It was a euro car IIRC and it had an older style HVAC setup, and it was the same part on the e28? Any idea what thread that was in?

I have another part question for anyone who would like to chin in, ok so I am looking for things that are broken or missing and I see from these pics I am missing the positive terminal cap but the pump above that I believe it's the heater controls valve? (Could be wrong) anyways 2 questions on this one it looks like a cap or sorts is broken or parts missing? Also does that unit just sit there not bolted down? From me looking at it it looks like it's just sitting on some rubber feet? Just wondering thanks in advance! I think it is part #20? correct me if i am wrong?

Those are the heater valves that let Copland in to the passenger and driver side of the heater core behind the dash. Beneath them is a small electric circulating pump. I believe our cars originally came with a cover for this unit however I've never found it, or seen it. I managed to find my positive terminal cover beneath my fuse box 2 years after buying my car. Look around for it, as someone getting a boost in the dark likely set it down in there somewhere and forgot it.

As for the heater valves, they ride on the rubber bushings to reduce vibration from the electric motor I guess, that's what mine looks like without the half cover.

So what your saying is i have more cover than you do? haha well i guess its not ultra important then lol and i found some other images and see how the cap fits on there but it looks like it would be a pain in the ass to get off if needed ... Maybe thats why you dont have one and mine is broken lol? Thanks for the reply btw Much appreciated btw ;)

Yep. Im alost positive i read years ago that OP's line was the vacuum source for that heater valve. Obviously only on euro cars, should just be capped on a US car.

If you're just looking for the 8 inch plastic cover for the heater valve.....you can get it here for about nine bucks. It just snaps on
