Hi guys have been absent for awhile now been enjoying the car, A little too much. Many broken axles this year and I'm about fed up with it. My car is a 91 525i 650whp

Now I know I can go large case and I know the cause is wheel hop. But here is my question I have read this
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1927141-e34-diff-swapping-need-to-know

And I got a little lost in the tech, But am I correct in thinking that I can swap the diff output flanges and the wheel cup flanges for the med large case flanges?

Bye doing this will this allow me to run a large case cv axle? And does any one know how much thicker the large case axles are over the med case?

I'm about to give up on all of it and go Ford 9 inch but I really want to keep the irs and gear ratio I have

Here are some measurements I made comparing large & medium diff's:

yes, the information is hidden, but it is in there. Look under fact 3) in the "note" paragraph.

also in post 2 of the linked thread above you will see that the diff output flanges are interchangeable between 188 diffs.

Cool so than I can also swap wheel cups. To medium large cups.

So now that I have that answer? Does anyone have a large and med axle to compare the axle shaft thickness

The axles that came with the medium large case diffs are the same part number as the axles in the large case diff cars. The only exception is the 540/6, they have beefier axles.

Right but I need to know how much larger they are than the med regular case axles . Sorry I was not clear in that

The early 535's have the larger axles (same part) as the M5.

I don't rememver off the top of my head the different bolt patterns, bolt sizes or axle diameters but it is all in that thread that you posted I believe. If not you can search through Realoem, that's where lots of the information in that thread came from.
