whining noise

I recently bought a 2010 mini s and I've just noticed a whining/bearing noise coming from around the passenger side of the engine. (alternator bearing maybe ?) Not really bad yet but if that's what it is and it gets worse, what's involved with an alternator change ? Idea's on what else it might be ? (UPDATE) a/c compressor clutch bearing. seller is paying for repair.

You might want to have a mechanic check your clutch. I just bought a 2007 mini base model convertible last month with 116K miles and noticed after about 400 miles of driving it that there was a whining noise and a burning plastic smell sometimes on hot days. Two days ago my clutch completely went out.
