Hello, I'm new to the forum and looking to buy my first BMW. I did search, but didn't find any real answers. I've been looking at E30's and E34's, but am also considering newer (2003+) BMW's. My question is which are the least maintenance intensive? I've owned VW and Audi, so maintenance isn't foreign to me. But I would like a reliable car, and like any manufacturer.. there are some years/models to steer clear of. My wife wants me to get a newer one, but I'm afraid of the repair cost and frequency. The older models I am confident I could repair myself. Any advice or fore warning would be great!

This is one of the cars I am looking at, but the engine looks newer to me... like maybe they did a motor swap? Or is the correct motor for a 1992 525i?
