I'm just wondering... On my e36 coupe, the windows slightly go down when I open my doors & return when I close them... I believe this is called the "tip function"
Could anyone elaborate on what that does/how it works... I'm aware of the reason, jus curious...
I know the window goes up to seal on weatherstrip, & goes down so glass doesn't break when opening, just want to know exactly how correct I am... Thanks

Fly you are by far my favorite bimmerforum members... You have all the answers!!! We'll my driver side motor has had better days & chooses when it would like to work or not. Can I assume that's the same reason my tip function doesn't always function?

Left my wizard robe at home today. But here goes nothing.
If the window fails to inch up/down at random times then it's most likely an issue with the micro switch in the door striker. If both windows fail to inch up/down then it's probably the ZKE module.

Agreed.

Tip function is the one-touch up and/or down function for the window switches and has nothing to do with the open/closing of door window drop/rise.

And if you disconnected the window motor you have to reset the window position by holding the up button for 10 sec after it is closed. This will also prevent the window drop function from working until reset.

Dunno if I missed something. Title of this thread is disturbing. Another question: what would be needed to retrofit tip function? Just a Jew switch? My buddy can't one touch open his roof window while I can. I noticed his switch is different. Would replacing it be enough?

Yeah, not sure the OT guys are too happy about killing cats.
They may rain fire down on this thread.

i like to be eccentric... I was curious about this function, so I used an old saying, thus "curiosity killed the cat" no offense intended...
But my issue is more like the window drops wen I open my door, but doesn't always return when I close it, promoting me to raise my window to the proper position by switch.

Sounds like a microswitch in the way out. I believe it depends on year and 2 vs. 4 dr, but some cars has the microswitch in the door jamb whereas others have it in the door latch inside the door itself Mparallel will correct me if I'm wrong. Take a look in the door jamb near the latch, there should be a small square or rectangle that pushes in. See if the window goes up/down when pressed/released.

It's not model, but year dependent. From MY95 the switch is on the latch striker.

I believe the function described by OP is the Window Pinch function. Also, I agree that looking into the micro switch is a good idea.

I believe the function described by OP is the Window Pinch function.
No.
OP is describing the typical inch down and up function for all standard coupes (not Ti's) whose doors do not have a frame around the windows...therefore as soon as the door begins to open it inches down, when closed it inches back up.
This is different from the "pinch" function as if you had your hand or some other object in the way of the window as you are rolling it up, especially with one touch windows.
But that's here to there...check the microswitch, especially the drivers side which obviously gets used the most.
