I just picked up an 87' 635CSI and it just dosen't look quite right without one, I really like how the OEM style lip spoilers look but I can't seem to find one,

Thanks!

They can still be had from BMW. $600ish. Lot's of cars being parted out both here and on BigCoupe.com.

Ah, that's rather pricey, but worth getting down the road,

This is what I bought and it worked great. Just piant it and its ready to go.

This is actually a nice option. Never have to worry about the "rubber" wearing out.

Check into moldless composite construction, specifically sandwich structures made of polyurethane closed-cell foam and fiber-reinforced polyester resin. In other words, make your own out of a small piece of RMax insulation board, maybe a quart of resin, and maybe a couple of bucks worth of fiberglass cloth, from Home Depot or Lowes.

YouTube probably has scads of videos on such construction. Extruded polystyrene (aka Dow blue house insulation sheet) also works fine, but requires more expensive epoxy resin, as polyester resin will dissolve polystyrene. OTOH, polystyrene can be hotwire cut, whereas polyurethane must be sanded or cut with a knife or saw.

That said, most people experienced in both materials tend to go with polyurethane, but have a shop vac handy as the sanding dust goes everywhere...

Another possibility is polyethylene foam, the stuff they make pipe insulation and pool noodles from. It can be hotwired. It's now common for RC model aircraft wings and fuses, as it is very tough, takes impact well, does not absorb moisture. Talk to a local RC hobby shop, or get in touch with local RC hobbyists, who can provide details on building with this stuff.

Camping mat foam like sold in ~20" X ~70" X 0.5" blue pads at WalMart may be useful for making flexible spoilers, if layered and painted. The jigsaw-puzzle-edged foam used for kids play areas and garage flooring comes in 2' X 2' squares, and is denser and more rigid than camping mat foam, and may also be useful to make a semi-rigid spoiler. I've not tried it personally, but have read that this stuff can be painted with spray Plasti-Dip in various colors. Google around for info on how this works, as is commonly used in making props and costumes.

Purists may howl at such unconventional ideas, but our cars are decades old, usable spares are increasingly rare and expensive, so we may as well start considering Plans B-Z for these old machines.

Hello 1986series6i, can you please post a pic of this spoiler on your car from a few different angles? There are many of us here who cannot find rear spoilers and I would love to see how this one looks and fits. The price is right and if all I have to do is paint it black, it's a bargain. Thanks.

I have seen this spoiler on Bob's car. It's basically a copy of the M tech 2 piece spoiler molded into one piece. Nice piece and you can't beat the price.

Outstanding looking upgrade, thanks-much for sharing.

Quick question: What are the mounting options on this spoiler? Embedded studs with nuts or adhesive tape?

Thank you for sharing these pics it looks very nice on your car. I have an 88 635csi Silber color and would probably paint it matte black. Do to the lack of rear spoilers this one may have to due. I just wish it did not extend past the trunk lines. It is possible to have the body shop shave the ends down to fit inside of the trunk lines. Decisions.

"What are the mounting options on this spoiler"

The spoiler comes with plastic straps that tape down and give you a drilling template.

The spoiler then bolts from under trunk into spoiler.

"It is possible to have the body shop shave the ends down to fit inside of the trunk lines"

I guess a body shop can fabricate just about anything if they work with fiberglass.

Is this like what you're looking for? This is the euro-spec e24 spoiler that was on non-M cars.

This is the all rubber spoiler (not the later models). Came on the early M635 cars as well.

I sent an inquiry to Pelican for availability and will let you all know what they say. I do not think any bwm dealers carry any of these spoilers anymore. Here is a pic of the spoiler I am looking for. 509024

That's #2 in the real OEM diagram. I may have a spare one-new in box if you can't find one.

I ordered one of these from Pelican last week, and according to their order status page, one will be delivered to me. My AMEX card was billed $315.75 with USPS Priority Mail shipping. We'll see . . .

If this doesn't work out with Pelican, I have one which is about 2 years old and it has been protected with Auto Glym. PO installed it on a 1989 USA 635, and it's still on the car, I should be removing it shortly as I prefer the look of the trunk without the spoiler and without the 635CSi badge. My car has original paint so I'm debating on a re-spray or just painting the trunk with a rear quarter repair and with the new front spoiler to be painted as well. Here are some photos, if you need more let me know.

Unfortunate update - Pelican just canceled my order, part is indeed NLA from BMW. Not sure why it took them so long to figure this out, but that's the way it goes.

Does Tischer aka getbmwparts.com not still have them? (meaning the M-tech later spoiler)

I wa watching this with interest. I have had this spoiler on back order since April 2014. Classic had sent an update last May saying available 8/14 & then saying 10/14 and finally not saying anything. I'm still on back order with the forecast of "no anticipated production date).
Classic BMW doesn't give a rat's ass about their vintage customers no matter what the Classic ads say in the Roundel pub. They had the balls to show a Euro car in the ad and all of us Euro & vintage owners know what a lie their claims are to "keep them like new".
I think we need to start a new website or FB page: BMWCLASSICLIES.com

Not much to this little spoiler, but I've seen it in person on a BMW and thought it was a nice touch: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PAINTED-REAR-TRUNK-BOOT-LIP-SPOILER-FOR-BMW-E24-6-Series-1976-1989-Coupe-/230951481491?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ABMW&hash=item35c5c7f093&vxp=mtr

They may, but my car is an '85 Euro, and I don't think the M-Tech would look appropriate. IMO, it's better suited for the US cars with their larger bumpers.

I have wasted a lot of time hunting and drooling over the early all rubber spoiler, and I think BMW is pretty stupid to not keep making these items and many others. These cars are not that old, if they truly cared about their vintage owners they would make a little more effort. Come on BMW! Rant over.
