passenger side mirror delete?? Has anyone seen these?

When I bought my 633csi a few month ago I found this in the glove box and didn't even really take a look at what it was until now. According to the BMW part number on the back and its perfect figment on my passenger side mirror it looks like a passenger side mirror chrome delete. I havn't seen this in an e24 ever. Any input on whether it was rare or just not used?

I believe E12's had a chrome piece instead of a mirror...

I have seen them on E12s but never on an E24. The part number matches E24 part. That's why I was wondering if anyone has ever seen them.

My '77 630csi (e12 based e24) did not have the passenger mirror—it had the chrome piece. I later retro-fitted a mirror.
