The e24

I really, really like the looks of the e24 6 series. Currently I'm looking for a semi performance car like an e36 m3 or even the right e30. Because of the fact that I'm looking for those type of cars, I'm hesitant to check out the 6 series.
My question is, with the right modifications, can they be on par in handling performance?
Even close?

I would stick with an e36. A 328 or m3 should serve well for track duty and they're getting fairly inexpensive these days.

It's not for track days at all. I just don't want a heavy shitty handling boat like many American cars.
And the 6 looks a gazillion times better then an e36 m3.
What if I do h&r springs shocks struts tie rods.. just about everything. A full upgrade/resto doesn't seem too expensive.
