Just got a Bosal for my '87 635.
Can someone 'splain how the front and rear sections bolt together? I get the top pipe (in the photo). But the other has only a straight pipe that slides into the other inlet of the rear section.
Am I missing a flange/doughnut gasket?
The old exhaust (complete with rattles in the cat) was welded together, so no clues there......

It looks like you have 2 non compatible parts there. Made by different manufactures. Looks to me like you have no corresponding "flange" for the lonely flange. Probably going to have to use a good ole muffler clamp on the other pipe.

I don't know about that. Think you just need a loose flange and crush ring for the straight pipe end. Not an uncommon setup. Check realoem.com

Go directly to the Bosal site and check the schematic, I think you are missing some parts. Hope e24 listing is still there as many of these parts are NLA from them, though they exist. They also have a tech line you can call. I did this and they were great, think I spoke to Jeff who knew the old BMW's. I bought this years ago before I knew about the IE stainless system. I painted the entire thing with VHT and so far, looks great and no outter rust (who knows about inside). Exhaust tips also don't fit. I drilled 3 small holes in each, used small SS machine screws to hold in place like a globe in a light fixture.

Reuse #17 from your existing exhaust and replace #16 with new.
