Hi guys,

Recently sold my 2009 Audi S5, and currently on the lookout for a nice e9x M3. In the mean time, I figured I would pick up something to drive around. Found a local 1994 325i sedan for sale on Craigslist and picked it up this past Saturday. It definitely needs some TLC but figured I would pose some major questions here before I started taking things apart.

(1) The left turn signal works sometimes, and other times it does not. The right turn signal doesn't seem to be having this problem. Sometimes if i'm sitting at a light turning left, the left turn signal with blink a few times, and then suddenly stop, then come back again after maybe 5-10 seconds. Do you think I should start with the stalk itself or are there any other common issues?

(2) I'm not sure if it's related to #1 or not, but the high beams don't work. When I click the stalk up, I get no reaction for the high beams. Looked at the fuse and it seemed to be good. Should I replace the stalk again, or a high beam relay?

(3) All windows and sunroof operate as they should except for the driver side window. I press down and hear a motor running, but the glass itself is stationary. Would I need to take the door panel off to further inspect?

(4) Front passenger side door latch wouldn't engage like all the others. I ended up buying a used one online for about $30. I'll replace it over the weekend and hope it's functioning properly. Anything I need to look out for with that install?

I figured I would try to fix what I can from above this weekend, as well as do some maintenance (oil change, air filter, etc), and clean it up. I've included some pics of the beast below. It was sitting for a few months before I bought her..

Thanks in advance for the help!
Mike

Welcome.

1 and 2 sound like a bad stalk for sure.

3 is a bad regulator/stripped plastic gear on the motor. Definitely need to take it apart to inspect and fix.

4 .... nothing special really to look for, just takes time.

Thanks man! If i'm not mistaken, both the turn signal and lights are on the same switch. Is there anyway to actually diagnose it's the switch (#2 below)?

I'll remove the driver and passenger door panel this weekend and take a look at the gears on the drive side, and replace the latch on the passenger side. Thanks again!

I would also trace the turn signal wiring under the hood. While you're at it clean up all the twigs and debris.

Nice pick up! I have some nice black heated sport seat cushions (and front seat frames) if you're interested. PM or email me. yo_lev at yahoo.com

one note, there are more than 'one fuse' for the high beams that can cause them to act up. 'flashers' f/e is another ciruit for the highs that I had an issue with once and the highs didn't operate.

btw, bet it'll feel quicker after you clean the 25lbs of nature out of the engine bay lol!

Thanks dude. Wait...what twigs and debris? :D I'll let you know about the seats as well.

I saw a couple of fuses like 28/29/30 that were all high beam fuses. I'll check if I see flashers as well.

And I know, the car is EXTREMELY dirty, it's embarrassing. haha. I was busy prepping my S5 for the new owner over the weekend so I didn't get a chance to clean this yet. I feel like with only a vacuum, it'll look 20% better. I'll post some updated pics after I clean it up.

Hey guys,

So i've been steadily working on the car. I cleaned up the engine bay, and figured out the headlight issue. The car was sitting for a little while and some type of animal chewed up wiring in the engine bay. The headlights, horn, and windshield washer tubing/wiring were all chewed up. I soldered them over the weekend and everything worked perfect. I also recently got it inspected. It needed brand new tires, rear springs, front brake lines, and an O2 sensor. But i'm back with my latest series of questions:

(1) The left turn signal is still intermittent. Right works all the time; however, when i flip it to left, it blinks for about 10 secs, then goes off for another 3, then blinks for another 10 secs, etc. I'm thinking it's the multifunctional switch, anybody have that problem before?

(2) We replaced the O2 sensor, but upon start-up there's a CEL. It's 1221, which is the O2 sensor. When I start to drive after about a minute it goes away and no lights. Any ideas what that could be?

I actually picked up an E92 M3 a couple weeks back so I'm going to be selling this in the near future. Would like to fix the couple things that are bothering me before I sell it though, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike
