Aren't these like totally different cars? I mean the numbers explain itself. 4 series. 3 series.

Depends on what you call "totally different".

Basically, with some exceptions, 3-series is 4-door, 4-series is 2-door. Same drive trains. Mostly similar interior setups.

Ok, but I thought I saw a 4 door 4 series. So 3 series will be replaced entirely? The 4 looks more like a 5 though size wise.

The 4 looks more like a 5 though size wise. No, incorrect. The 3- series isn't going anywhere. There will be a 4-door 4-series, but not a regular sedan-type.

It gets quite confusing trying to understand BMW's naming conventions. Go to bmwusa.com and you can see all the different models.

Technically speaking, the 3,4 series are much more closely related to each other as compared to the 1,2 series.

I did a tour at the plant when I was in Munich. 3 & 4 series are the exact car from hood to driver seat. BMW made the coupe 4 instead of 3 so they can price it higher. $$

At least with the last gen that was always the case unless maybe you got the poseur stripped lease special.

The 4 sits lower and is slightly wider as well. A few other tweaks make it worth it to me. I'll be moving to the F32 when I trade my F30 next Spring.

They also have the 2015 4-Series Grand Coupe which is basically a lower profile 3-series sedan with a rear hatch instead of standard trunk. It sits wider, is a little bit longer but actually lower in height so it has an overall sleaker look. It's also set to be priced about $3500 higher than it's 3-series counterpart so you will pay for the look even though many of the components are shared with the 3-series.

I like that BMW offers so many configurations and model options so you can truly personalize your car, however I agree that the classification gets confusing. Why not just bundle them under the same series and give each model a different numerical identifier with M counterparts?

I meant from 3-Coupe to 4-Coupe. Sorry I was specific enough for you.

I traded my E92 for the F32, extremely worth it!!!

Yep the 4 Series Grand Coupe i have my eye on to replace my 3 Series coupe ...or another 3 Series coupe if they haven't squashed the interior as they have the 3 saloon.. what have BMW done to the 3 saloon inside to make the seats look so crappy and squashed?!!
So might have to move up to a 4 to escape the minuturising!

The 3 series are now all sedans (4dr) and the 4 series are all coupes (2dr)

No, you are not correct. As noted prior, the 4-series Grand Coupe has 4 doors. And it is a 4-series (lower roofline, coupe front, etc., not a 3-series.
