For some reason today, my drivers side seat belt will not retract. Any suggestions or experience with this issue?

My seat belt doesn't retract either, i believe the whole assembly needs to be replaced
part number is 72118200853

Sometimes the panels can put pressure on the belt too

I took the panel off and a plastic gear fell out. What model/years are compatible?

Coupes should work with coupes, sedans with sedans. I pulled one from a junk yard, but be careful...if the car was in an accident where the airbag deployed then the seat will not lock. Ask me how I know haha. Best bet is ordering it new.
also that link for ecstuning is for a coupe, since the sedans need the metal bracket tha attaches to the seat itself

The seatbelt has no connection to srs system, it's strictly mechanical.

Okay except I pulled a seatbelt that was from an airbag deployed car and it won't lock. My buddy who owns a BMW shop says they do that for safety reasons

Are the 525 belts the same?

Just to clarify we are talking about the actual seat belt and not the seat belt buckle. 98 and 99 e36's used a pyrotechnic seat belt buckle. It's one time use

My retractor is bad. I need the belt and retractor assy. There's a couple at the local recycler but I need to know which models are compatible.
