Does anyone ever fill this reservoir on the passenger firewall and if so with what?

Just use regular windshield washer fluid. BMW used to make some special washer fluid for it but has not for quite some time.

Tx, Why not leave it empty then since there is a larger tank?

If you leave it empty, then the "Intensive" wash function on the stalk (push on the end I think) will not work.
The regular wash function takes the fluid from the bigger tank and the intensive from the smaller.

While BMW may not make the intensive fluid. their "regular" fluid is a concentrate. Perhaps mixing it with less water may be something equivalent to the intensive fluid. Or it might only lower the freezing point. Not sure but a thought...

Hi Guys,

I filled both tanks with distilled water, less water spots.

Best,

Wish I could. I need a little more freezing point supression than you do.

I've seen people put some sort of wash-antifreeze mix in there for de-icing the windshield. Obviously, I have no experience with this (california), but I think that might have been part of its original intent.

I have some and it says it doesn't have any antifreeze properties. I think that's par for the course. You may need to add some methanol or something if freezing temperatures are a concern. Cool idea for anyone that is short on garage space, but it's a gel, so you definitely need to shake it up in some sort of container first, otherwise it will never mix right.

There is some German product that is a concentrate that you mix to make the "Concentrated window cleaner", BavAuto has it, but IIRC, it is a bit expensive. Alternatively, RainX has a "summer formula" washer fluid to clean bugs and grim off.

FYI, when you use the Concentrated window cleaner reservoir, you get a couple of seconds from it and then the system switches over and you get a couple of seconds from the standard washer reservoir

How do you trigger the intensive vs. the standard washer system?

By the washer stalk on the steering column, push it in toward the steering column activates the intense. Pull the stalk toward yourself is the standard wash or vice versa.

Roger,

Thanks...looks like since the tank was empty (intense) I had no idea what the stalk did when I pushed in. Awesome!

Original intent was for bug splatter on the windshield.
