Greetings. From time to time, and usually in the hotter months, I get a smattering of light yellow waxy residue on my hood. It is almost always around the vent openings near the firewall end. I asked a body shop once, and he speculated that it was the clear coat portion of a one stage paint leeching out. I seriously doubt that, since the car has original paint all the way around. I am sure it's not droppings from a tree, especially since it is always so precisely placed.

Do ants do this sort of thing? Little tiny black ants? The consistency is like wax: soft and malleable. IF I was to just wipe it, it would smear. Thanks for any thoughts. It's a black 1989.

is there anything funky going on in the area under the hood where those vents are? I know theres some insulation bits there maybe they are disintegrating?

You said black? That looks silver, or maybe a bright reflection?
Anywho: bee poop.

Hmm... pretty much the only thing around there is the blower motor. Maybe it's something from the AC since you specified the warmer months.

Nothing amiss underneath, and I have never see the stuff under the vents or in the engine bay. Yes, the car is black. And I don't often see bees here. Today, it was on both the left and right sides of the hood. It seems to be organic. Strange, huh?
Blurry but gives you an idea of how much is there. Car was sitting outside, and hadn't been started in three days.

I'm tellin' ya, you got a hive in your heater blower. Careful if you try to remove the metal cover, you might bee sorry.

Hopefully you don't need a new, expensive blower. That's going to sting.
Removing the cover yourself might be risky buzzness.
