So I bought a car that is a 1992 325i, its obd1 and the previous owner clearly did not like to take his time when working on the car and this caused a lot of bad wiring to the point the car had more cut wires and random short outs than OE wiring.
I picked the car up for dirt cheap as a project, unaware of the electrical nightmare of course but now its time to address it.
THE CAR WILL BE TRACKED.
With that stated I am in the process of removing the body harness so I can make my own.
I want everything that will remain in the car (just the necessities, so there is no climate control, no radio ect) to be wired to a control panel. 12v on/off switch (battery power so nothing will be live in the car when that is off)
ON/OFF switches to control the wipers, the lights (one switch low beams one switch high beams) one switch for the fuel pump, I will reuse the power window switches. As far as ignition, I would like a switch to turn the ignition from off to acc and then use a completely different switch or button to actually start the car.
I would like the car to still be road legal that is why I want the lights on the the panel.
I want this done all for safety, obviously if the car were to catch fire at the track, just flip all the switches down in the same movement as getting out of the car to cut the fuel and all electrical power in the car.
Also it will make trouble shooting easier in the future.
I will be getting a racepak or stack cluster and both of those come with the necessary sensors and wiring to give correct readings so I'm not worried about the cluster wiring and plus that is not pertinent to get the car running.
So if anyone has any input on how to go about making the harness whether it be a diagram of how to run the wires or what else should be on a kill switch or a link to a build thread where some one has done a similar thing it would be greatly appreciated because this is my first electrical project.
Thank you in advance.
Once I get the wiring figured out maybe I'll make a build thread.
