Hey BFC just wanted to put a fraud alert out for the following Forum Member: E36guy420

This was my first time trying to buy something from a fellow forum members since i have been a part of this website since 2007. Ha... I’ll laugh now because this is the first time this has ever happened to me but I’m sure I’ll get my money back from PAYPAL through their payment protection.

I was pm'ed by a E36guy420 thinking that he was another member that i was talking to about side moldings for my E36. I was talking to 4 different members here trying to get a good quote for the moldings... anyways this is what he pm'ed me with:

Hey bro still interested in the side moldings both driver and passenger ? I have a set im shipping complete with hardware in immaculate condition shoot me an email if you interested im only asking $150 shipped I’m asking a fair price for a quick sale the moldings are packaged ready to ship whenever funds are received. Jacksonjames990@gmail.com Im at the shipping company now shipping parts for other buyers please keep me informed and email me with your zipcode so i can get an idea on where there going.

My reply was not received in his box due to it being full so i emailed him this:

This is the fourth and final email that I’m sending in regards to the side moldings I purchased from you... If I don't hear from you with a tracking number of the item by 4pm PST i will recede the payment through PAYPAL by filing a claim. All im asking for is the tracking number for the box and we will be good otherwise im considering this a scam...

.

To my surprise i received a reply and this is what he sent me in an e-mail... No text but this was attached:

Whats so weird about that? I did something just like that earlier today - had someone call to buy some parts while I was at my shipping company getting stuff shipped and while I was there on the phone with him I gave them the dimensions and got a quote right away...

Little sketchy at most but far from a "dead give away" ...sheesh, some of you people, I swear...

Its like you would call someone asking if they have a part for sale, if they say they still have it for sale you think its a scam :rofl

its a high pressure sales tactic. you're running out to time, you must make your decision NOW.

LOL okay bud... go to a low-end car dealership and see what real high pressure sales tactics are.

Sucks that people pull crap like this. Makes it harder for people to trust others.

They use the aforementioned tactics, precisely actually, minus the shipping company part because its irrelevant for a car (unless you're on craigslist, they'll use the shipping part too!)

So they use the aforementioned tactics minus the very core of the aforementioned tactic. Got it.

complete with hardware in immaculate condition
im only asking $150 'ready to go/ out the door'
im asking a fair price for a quick sale
the moldings are packaged ready to 'go' when ever funds are received.
Im at the 'place where you can get it/i can get it to you' now
other buyers

Safe to assume you've never been in sales.
Replaced ship so you can see the tactics at work...

lol, I've worked exclusively in sales the past 5 years, I never said the whole post was legit but I was responding to the guy who said "I'm at the shipping company now" as if that immediately meant it was a scam, since I said that same thing to a customer earlier that very day and sold the part and he received it and is happy with it.

Some of you guys are ridiculous... guys this explains why some of you only buy brand new parts even for non-wear items where used is fine, because they let you know they are for sale and "ready to go" and you think its a scam :rofl

I buy used all the time. I'll agree with what you're saying exclusively about being at the shipping company making it a scam automatically, however it would make many people at least a little suspicious.

OP, Sorry you got burned. Take comfort in knowing people like this usually wind up with a ticket on the karma train, occasionally you'll even be able to see when it happens.
Yeah, that message had all the clues but too late now.
As for the sale tactics discussed I'll ad my $.02; I've sold a fair amount of used parts here myself and have sent messages to buyers who haven't yet paid for promised purchases when I'm about to go to FedEx/PO/UPS, etc. in an effort to save myself another trip later. So, this tactic, if you choose to call it that, is plausible but a message from a seller who just happens to be "at the shipper" with exactly what you need in hand and ready to go strains credulity.

Between the 420, the bad grammar, and the lack of punctuation I'd have moved on. But at least you have paypal on your side.

Yup... have to wait until the 21st before it can be escalated again... Learned a valuable lesson here. Just wanted to ware anyone else that might run into the same Paypal account, names, ect.... just trying to warn everybody...

You know, after re-reading this thread, it sounded like you sent payment without even confirming any sort of fitment for these items. If he cant tell you what type of car they are for, and you arent even sure, why buy them anyways? They may not even fit you car. I dont get it man. Yeah he seemed to scam you but also caveat emptor is a bit relevant here...

I did verify with the criminal the fitment and whether it was for a coupe or sedan. Just FYI.. one thing I didn't ask for was a picture of the item. Again if you read, I got confused on who I was talking to. I was thinking that this guy was another guy on here that was parting out his car. Thats where my biggest mistake was... getting cconfused with wwhat I was talking to. I didn't have to share this with bf.c but my ethical stance is that even though iI'm some what embarrassed that this happened, I just did want anyone else to fall victim to this criminal and the credentials he was using....
