This is the first I have heard of this but got a letter in the mail today saying the 128i has been recalled. All 6 cylinder models are affected from what I gather.
Per the letter from BMW:
"The recall involves the housing bolts of the variable camshaft timing (VANOS) adjustment unit. The bolts may possibly loosen over time and, under certain circumstances, may break. As a result, the reduced engine power "safe mode" may be activated. In some cases the engine cannot be started after switching off and less frequently the engine could stall which could lead to a crash."
The repair will be done free of charge but they say they do not have the parts yet and we will be contacted when the parts are available. :dunno
I've never heard of this issue before today... interesting
