So I have a bit of an odd request. I need my car to pass smog and the new stupid STAR stations won't pass my Turner Motorsport headers. Here is what I am looking for. You take the headers off my car and put your good working condition 96 and up exhaust manifolds on. For your trouble you can have the headers for free. I am in San Jose and would prefer this happens in SJ.
PM me if you can do it.

I can't help with manifolds but may be in the same situation as you next year. Do you have the CARB sticker for the headers and they are still failing you? I have the same ones but bought them used and the manufacturer (JP) won't give me a replacement sticker.
The problem with obdII is the headers eliminate the sap, which is obvious to the smog tech. Look for past threads about the jp headers, i provided pics to a member and he was gonna try to make a vinyl sticker. If u live in socal i bet if you vidited jose he would give u one.

Oh, I assumed you had the ones with SAP ports - http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-3657-e36-325i328im3-z3mz3-turner-shorty-headers.aspx

I would be so in for this if you were further south, dammit. Good luck, shouldn't take too long for someone to take you up on this!

Mine do have the SAP ports and they still failed me for no CARB sticker... I have a few other things like a 3.5 MAF but that at least that looks stock so they did not notice.

Did you try to get a replacement sticker? I email them, received this response:
If your seller does not have the sticker then we will need the original invoice showing the vendors name where he purchased them. when he purchased them and the amount of the invoice.
Thanks
JP
A few days later I emailed them a scan of the original invoice and now they won't respond. I've tried several more times of the past 3-4 months with no word from them.

^ I purchased them second hand so that won't work for me.

They won't take it that you ceramic coated them? Header heat wrap could also hide them.

Maybe the header wrap would work but they re so scared about losing their license they would way rather fail you then risk anything. Heck I showed one shop my intake CARB sticker and they refused to check my car, the next one had to be convinced...
This STAR crap is so stupid... my neighbors f350 that blows more black smoke then a coal mine doesn't even need to be put on rollers and I get rejected for making my engine a little more efficient....

I've got a spare set of s52 obd 2 headers with o2 sensors (dunno if they work).

Thanks I may take you up on that if no one wants to do the work. I just don't have the time (or motivation) right now to make the switch.

So, I have the OBD1 Shorties, with the CARB sticker, on a otherwise stock 95 M3 and I still get failed.
The issue I was running into was that the headers don't have the EO number engraved on the part itself so they don't know the header and the sticker go together. I called up JP Performance (who actually make the headers in socal) and they allegedly haven't had issues with smog/star down there.
My plan is to take it to the BAR ref and show them it is a legitimate CARB header, with an EO number, that pre-dates the new requirement that headers have the EO number engraved/stamped/etc on them. I'm a little north of you but haven't had any luck yet.
