Even though I bought the car last thanksgiving, I finally got it registered and yesterday was the first day I've taken the car out for a spin. Unfortunately it was not so successful.

Seems like I may have inadvertently left the lights on all winter so the battery was dead. Also one tire was low. So I drove it to the closest gas station. The battery died two more times and the car pee'ed itself (looks like power steering fluid). Seems like there is also a hole in the exhaust. And the valves are tapping loudly!

I eventually made it home but the car was smoking and shaking pretty badly by the time I got home.

Not exactly an auspicious start but it was nice to get it on the road. I am taking it to a local specialist next week for a once over. Looks like I'll have a long to-do list....

Here's a photo at the gas station:

Sorry to hear about your less than perfect 1st drive :( Just remember, it's not the start ..... it is the finish that counts :)

Keep at it. I don't think anything on our cars goes right the first time. Good thing we have the good ol' M30. Be careful with your brakes, as well. I believe the brakes run boost off the PS system.

Thanks for the encouragement. I know it's all part of the fun. I'm used to the simplicity of the m10 so this is a big step up for me, especially with all the electronics. Can't wait to get driving!

Glad you got it out, I'm sure the problems are relatively minor.

Looks good, now you just need to figure out what problems you have to deal with.

Adjust the valves yourself! Are you sure it's not injectors that are loud? I thought it was the valves on my car, after adjustment it sounded smoother.... but ticked just as loud - turned out to be the injectors which are notoriously LOUD on these cars.

the m30s as an engine are bullet proof just like the M10
