What are you guys using for your in-car jack? The factory jack? I haven't seen one of those in a long time. Where can I get one to put in my car in case when I need it? Guess I've been lucky not needing one for as long as I can remember.

I think its the same as in just about every other 80's a BMW. If you are in the Northern California area I have about 5 laying around my house. Or look at a local pick and pull.

Is the factory jack the one where you hand crank it in a circular motion? If so I didn't like that one at all. It just didn't feel safe. I'm thinking getting the bottle jack, just something to raise the car high enough so I can change a flat. Can someone take a picture of the factory jack? Thanks.

The factory jack is the one you rotate in a circular motion, and I understand why you feel that way with the safety, but really, if set on a flat surface, with all the weight on it, it's not going anywhere unless you put the thing at some god forsaken angle.

I have used the factory jack and it is very stable if the car is flat. If not the car comes with a tire chuck. If not that then a rock or block of wood. I have used the jack for fixing body work on e30s before and ire works great

The only reason BMW stopped making the jacks like that after... many, many years is that the world became too dumb to use it correctly.

My opinion..

They have an appetite for body side mouldings.

Be careful.

In all honesty I've used it only once. I hate carrying weight daily in one so when I have a flat I either limp or call for help which usually comes with a floor jack.

Lol... Actually, having dealt with the VW/Audi scissor jacks of death for many years, I find the BMW jack surprisingly stable and effective. One wheel chock on the diagonally opposite wheel just for peace of mind, and I'm good. Obviously not as good as a floor jack, but until I can afford to drop $800 on a super light aluminum floor jack to carry around in the trunk, the OEM version is acceptable.

The factory jacks are light and easy to use but you must use a chock. Maybe even the one supplied in the tool kit.

And be careful with the body moulds.

Meh, a sticky rope type plug repair kit, a pair of pliers from your tool kit and a compressor from harbour freight and you're good to go.

Actually, nail puller pliers work great for pulling stuff out of tyres. It's better if they're a bit blunt so you don't cut nails etc off and leave bits in the tread.

The factory jack is very good stuff. I've used one hundreds of times for various maintenance and dozens of flat tires. I wouldn't climb under there and swap the diff on a factory jack, but that's not what it's for. I don't have time to be calling people for help, I've never had a flat tire set me back more than 15 minutes.
