need help on a couple of things:

a) I just got some Sport springs - I really don't think I need to do the shocks and struts at the same time because I think the shocks are fine...any thoughts?

b) By how much will the rear be lowered? if at all?

c) where can I find detailed instructions?

d) If I wanted to have a pro do it, would I pay $100, $300, $500?
Does anyone know of really good shops?

Hi Matt, let me be first to give some of your questions a shot but for the best DIY advice you can get, reach out to Big-T. Big-T is very knowledgeable in this area and quite generous with his time.

a.) The decision on changing the struts depends on your driving style and what you want to accomplish. If you are after a bit more spirited driving and better stability in the corners, you might want to think about a set of Bilstien HD struts, probably around $600.00. IMO, if you are going through the time and possible independent shop expense to install the 740i "Sport" springs, you might as well do the struts at the same time. If you are comfortable doing this yourself and cost saving is an object, then just keep your current struts, knowing you will have to do the install all over again in the future.

b.) You have the 740i "Sport" Springs and, according to BMW, they provide about an inch drop up front and no drop in the rear. The springs are sport tuned and stiffer than stock.

c.) Start by checking out Big-T's instructions on cardomain below and shoot him an email for more info.

d.) Sorry, I don't know any shops on the West coast but here on the East coast, this install runs around $500.00 from an independent shop.

Bilsteins will probably run you closer to $450 all around. I changed the fronts on my 750 and they were $108 each plus shipping from Eurasian. My advice is to change them while you're at it since you'll only have to pay installation once.

thanks for the advice...I think maybe I'll wait to do the rears after I just do the fronts - they seem to be relatively easy to do. I'll put the fronts in and see what the ride is like with them on. Worn struts are a possibility with setup and maybe I'll see if they are worn...if they are then my CPO should take care of it:D

But I do need someone to allow me to borrow a spring compressor - they are not that expensive, bit I may use it only once...so it seems frivolous to buy one...may a shop will let me rent one???
