The L6 was built in 87 and I think 88. It was a luxury version of the 635 csi.

There is no such color as an ignorant color.

It's an expression that has nothing to do with race so calm down. L had kangaroo leather dash and all kinds of leather in it everywhere.

Yepper - L6 was "luxury" or in the UK "highline" version of the 635csi

Leather everywhere - door panels, headliner, dashboard, center console, even ashtray on the L7

They did an L7 too on the E23 chassis

I think 86-87 for the L6's (maybe 87-88) but I know my dad had an 86 L7 for a while-

After they realized the leather Dashes would warp in the sunlight/UV rays - they recalled them on cosmetic defect - (my 87 M6 still has the leather dash, but it's beginning to warp out after 17 years...)

L6's were the first to feature the rear-seat cooler box in the 6 series -

mine will get a 12 oz drink to cold from warm/hot in about 2 hours- Very neat feature - in fact - just reintroduced onthe 760Li

The L6 was the baller luxury version of the 6 series from the late 80s. It had a special rear seat and leather everywhere.

Here is one.

Good shot of the cooler-

and not bad looking car either-

all auto's so they were slugs - know some folks that did 5 spd conversions on them however....

and 88-89 US models; after leather dash recall/discontinuation got wht they called "halfline" - leather everywhere but the dash and door window sills; still with the rear seat cooler-

Did I mention the rear-seat cooler-

I always thought that the L stood for long wheel base, much like the 7 series models. Plus the L6/7 have extra long B-Pillars that look really weird and could contribute to one thinking that L stands for long.

Thanks for the info.
