View Full Version : converting automatic to manual e39
i got this idea of converting my 530 e39 2002 automatic into a manual transimission but i haven't quite got a clue from what parts is needed and how much would there cost.
if anyone could give me advises and answer, your help would be really greatful.
thank you very much.

easier and less money to just trade the car for a manual version... I would guess $3K+

Agreed. Ask the question in the 3er forum as there are a few people who have done it to their cars. Yuo have a 6 in there anyways. Good luck

yeah, the only cars worth the effort are the V8s, not enough manuals to go around...

Always thought this might be a cool idea in a 540 touring (considering the US market only gets the slushbox). Do you guys know the $$$ for a conversion in a 540?

Well, first you'd have to find a 540iT. That would be hard enough... they brought over VERY few of those.
I bet the conversion would run $3-4k pretty easily. I bet koalamotorsports could give you a better quote.

try closer to 7-9 k for the conversion
Koala Motorsports converted a 540iT to a manual not too long ago
you need to get a donor assembly (3-4k right there) then replace EVERYTHING... you probably will even need to replace the ECU to tell it that it is a Manual vs Auto.
From what I remember... iT was a pain to do...but the person LOVES the change! HOW could you not!
540iT Sport, Manual, 3:15 (if not upgraded to 3:46!) rear...Gotta love iT

Who had the conversion done? I hadn't heard about that one-
The general opinion is that you're better off to just find one and buy it, but if you can't find them then go for it :)
KMS is definitely the place to go for the swap. FYI- You're better off to e-mail them, unless they're expecting your call the phone just keeps on ringin' :shifty
