Looking to swap a motor into my 97 328i. I'd like to get as much as I can with the engine (ECU, Alternator, AC Compressor, Power Steering Pump, ect.). The lower the miles the better but I'm flexible on price depending on the situation. If the miles are low on an older one or high on a younger one, stuff like that. Trying to stay as close to $1,000 as possible. Thanks.

$1000 for an S52? LOL is this a joke? Just FYI, last 5 S52s that we sold, all went for $2500-3000

Yea, at $1k, you may be looking into something 175k + miles on it. Occasionally may see a smoking deal that low, but it's likely going to be pickup/locals only.

Looking for a low mile S52, with ALL the accessories for $1k. LOL. You could get a blown s52 with all the accessories for about $800.

The lowest I've ever seen an S52 was $1300 and it had 250k+ on it. You wont find a low mile S52 for 1K I guarantee you that, I paid $2200 for my S52 with 105k miles on it at the time.

If you cannot increase your budget to at least 2g's, your not going to get anywhere.

I think he is hocking too lol. I sell m50/2's for that much or more. Usually $2,500 or more for a s52. Also, s52's were not made in 95, just s50's. I'd consider selling my 200k s50 bare for $1,000 though

I have a s52 block with a hole in the block. A warped head with no cams and a broken alternator for $1000. That's about all you will get with your dreams

I like what the OP is doing. Although craigslist might be a better place to post this, but he may find someone who doesn't know what they have or need the space and are willing to let go of a good s52 for cheap. Keep at it!

Wayne Gretski said you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. I put a number out there and I can wait to find a deal. If you don't have what I want, shut the F#€< up and go on about your business. I said I was flexible if the deal was right, meaning I will pay more for a better deal. I don't mind high miles either if it's in good shape. I will keep trying until I find a good deal and the Debbie downers in here can suck it. Thanks to anyone who wants it.

Reality is not on your side, we simply tried to tell you that a $1000 good S52 is totally unrealistic and you tell us to suck it?? With that attitude your not going to make friends around here like that :shifty keep talking that way and a mod will put you into time out and/or show you to the door

I know it's not what you say it's how you say it so I apologize for for the snarky remark. I have been having a lot of problems with my car recently and frustration got the better of me. I was given a price range to shoot for by a friend and I see now that I am gonna have to be a little more flexible than I first thought. Sorry again for the tude, I don't want to make enemies anywhere in life, forum or not. It turns out I really don't need many accessories, mine are all in pretty good shape. If anyone does have something to offer, I am open to suggestions on how to make the best of this. Sincere thanks.

Apology accepted

If you dont mind i'll lend a little advice

If you increase your budget to 1.5g you can still find a good condition but higher mile S52, only draw back to that is it will be closer to eventually needing work, these motors are good till around 300k then potential chain guide problems and tired/leaky valves come into the picture.

Or for $1000 or less you can get an excellent condition lower mile M52B28 which is a direct swap as far as your current tune goes and you're all done. You could also S52 cam a B28 and get close to S50 power after tuned.

I know how car frustration can be, I went through it last year when I discovered I was driving on a cracked M50 the whole time :shifty hence how I ended up with my new/current setup

I have an s52 with ZF trans for 2k, only thing is I won't part either. 150k on both, needs a harmonic balancer which I have.

Looks like a new motor is going to have to be put on hold for now. Got mine runnin good so it's gonna be next summers project. Since I've already done so much to this one, and it's in such good shape, I am really excited to drop an engine in it later on. Plus it gives me time to raise the budget. Thanks for the advice y'all.
