For those with M cars, what interval do you follow for valve adjustment? If anyone knows of a shop with this capability within 50 miles of Hagerstown, MD please let me know. Thanks.

15K miles or when noisey. IIRC yours are not.

I always did 15-18k miles in an M5. Usually only a few valves needed new shims at each adjustment. RRT Dulles VA or Excluservice Rockville MD should be able to do it. Call to check.

I checked with a couple of reputable shops Excluservice was one of the them. WOW!! Prices range from $550-$650. I will go with George and let mine go for a while as they do not seem to be at all noisy. They were adjusted by Terry Sayther but I am still looking for the documentation on the mileage. Given that the PO was only driving the car a couple thousand miles a year, I think I am good for quite a while. Thank goodness as I don't want to drop $500 right now on a valve adjustment.
Added: I found a valve shim set on Amazon that is for Volvo engines but several Amazon customers confirm they will work on BMW S38 and S14 engines.
Here is a link to them: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B001HJA6RU/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2DLN86GKFKJNN&coliid=IRGWS2IQYD35D
Would be interested to know if anyone on this forum has used them
