View Full Version : E34 M5 Power Steering/LAD/SLS Question

Last night I was cruising around with some friends and after accelerating from a stop, the rear end of my m5 just sunk down
So after taking it to my shop and putting it up in the air, we found out the hose coming out of the accumulator was leaking out all the fluid, and no I have no suspension in the rear and my power steering is out
I know I'm not gonna need a pump but it was making me think about getting a backup, and we have a few spare m30 engines from old E32s, with the pumps still on them
My question is whether that power steering pump is interchangeable, even though they have different part numbers, and if so, what is the difference??
Another question I have is why my suspension settles all the way down like 5 minutes after I shit the car off... Does anyone think it could be the SLS valve in the rear letting fluid back into the front of the car?
Any info would help, Thanks!!

The M30 pumps don't have the extra parts to run the SLS, so you won't be able to use any old M30 pump.
I am about to head to the garage now and swap out my S38 pump for one from a 535i because I want to delete the SLS. If you want a spare send me a PM, I would be happy to sell it.
I don't know anything else about how the SLS operates though, so I can't help with your other questions.

The pump on the scrap m30 is from an e32 735i, which carries an SLS suspension as well, so I'm assuming the p/s pump is interchangeable

From memory the part number is different but I don't know of a reason why it wouldn't functionally interchange.
If you end up wanting the actual M5 tandem vane pump I have one on the shelf
