View Full Version : Battery died anything i should know??

Title says it all. I foolishly left my lights on. Ive been getting sparks when i try to jump it with other cars. Am i missing something, i thought it would be simple

Are you grounding the negative cable to your car? Don't understand why you would be getting "sparks" if the cable are properly attached.

OH NO!!! Sparks are never part of the battey jumping proceedure. Make absolutely certain you have NOT attached the jumper cables backwards. This could equal fried ecu... :beer

Thank you guys, im glad I asked. Last thing i need is to make more problems for myself

Ignition systems on both cars should be off
Make sure terminals to all battery posts are tight
Connect positive cable to each positive terminal
Connect one end of negative cable to negative terminal of car that will be doing the "jumping"
Then connect other end of negative cable to a good engine or chassis ground...not to the other battery's negative terminal as if a spark occurs and there are any battery gases present...well you know!
Start engine of "jumping" vehicle and let run at a "fast" idle for a couple of minutes to "excite" the dead battery.
Try starting dead vehicle...hopefully you'll be successful!
