E39 spacer question

I ordered 20mm spacers for the +38 offset wheels I picked up from a buddy last week. Well, the seller sent 15mm accidentally and I'm not sure a +23 is what I want or how it would look. Whats is the minimum offset on an E39 that won't the require rolling the fenders. Wheels are 18x8 and 18x9 with 255/35 in the rear. The car sits on coilovers so ride height will be adjusted appropriately.

First.... Don't test fit... Most sellers wont take back "used" spacers..
I'd say return them amd get what you ordered in the first place.
You chose 20 for a reason right?
You could do the flat washer test fit....
Use flat washers to create the 15 you where sent and put them on at least three studs for a test fit.
DO NOT DRIVE THAT WAY, JUST ROLL THE CAR AND TURN THE WHEEL TO TEST FOR RUB.
