After returning from my vacation my 02 540/6 seems to have developed a clicking noise while turning. it is more sever while turning to the right but can also be heard turning to the left. it also only happens after more than 1 full turn either way from center. can't hear it file moving at greater than parking lot speeds. it sounds like a spring is being wound up then decompressing because the frequency is at about 5 - 10 clicks a second (provided that I'm still turning the wheel). Ive gotten under the car and had a friend turn the wheel but could not locate the problem. checked torque of strut to carrier as well as torque of control arm and thrust arm to bushings. i replaced the control arms, thrust arms, wheel bearings, shocks, shock mounts and shock beatings last year (6000 miles ago). Im stumped, any help?:mad

Well my friend, it sounds like an axle. check to see if it is leaking. If so, you may be able to just buy some time by replacing the boot. if not than it is going to be a whole new axle.. good luck..
