View Full Version : Rubbers..... and Wood Trim Maintenance. Any important things I should know?

Trying to take care of my rubbers.... No I'm not talking about the ones that touch the ground, I'm talking about the rubber gaskets in the doors and along the windows. Anyone have suggestions? I see that the Einszett Gummi Pflege Stick gets a LOT of recommendations. Any reviews of it on this forum? Does it really keep the interior quiet?

Also, I just bought some, really, really expensive wood trim (you can probably guess what it is), but its clear coat needs some TLC. From what I know it's a pretty extensive process to refurbish the coating to brand new again. Any recommendations on what to do? There's scratches and swirls all over the most commonly touched areas. Do any of you guys recommend professional interior restorers near the Seattle/Bellevue area?

Thanks in advance!

Polish like you would your car's paint job. Using compound.

Any compounds you recommend? Should I go with power tools or use the hand? OK, let the jokes begin.

I hand polished the wood trim in my BMW using P1 on a german applicator. Came out really well.

I unfortunately don't have any buffing/polishing tools. Guess I'll have to order some new items today....

EDIT: Actually I think I'm going to go with elbow grease on this one....

So polishing compound with a micro cloth and then run some sort of wax over it? No need to wet sand it I presume. What's P1? I may also buy the protectant but right now I'm looking for specific compounds and waxes to use.

If you got that expensive set from that one guy in good ol' Ahlden, Germany, I will be super jelly. I wonder if we are talking about the same trim :)

Cracks are a serious pain. One method is one that the E38 crowd uses, and that is to completely strip/sand the clear coat off and reapply.

I thought this was a different forum when I posted that.
P1 is a compound made by Gtechnic

I had used Gummi Pflege on the door seals of the E34 I owned. It was good product for maintenance of the seals and it helped with door squeaks. For my current car (540i/6) I found a better way for eliminating the door squeaks which were driving me nuts. Wrap the striker plate posts with Velcro...the difference was amazing. I found the tip from a post on the M5 board.

Thanks for the tips and tricks. I'm gonna buy some treatment for my rubbers but which one to get?

Gummi Pfledge or Krytox/Carbaflo or dirt cheap generic silicone spray?
Krytox seems way overpriced for what it is.

And yes... Only the best special German Wood!
