Didn't want to hijack the other thread. So I'm really tall and have my seat floor mounted far back in order to get in a comfortable driving position, and now that I'm looking into cage building options, I'm really limited as to where my main hoop can go. My question is 2 parts, 1) can I weld to the rear seat "bench" rather then the floor behind the drivers seat? The main reason for welding there would be that it will clear my seat whereas if I have to weld directly behind the seat my main hoop would be at a shitty angle or rub my seat which isn't cool.. And 2) since I want to keep the interior as full as possible for right now, should I hole saw through the rear wall ( dunno the technical term) and run the bars straight to the strut tower rather then just welding to the wall itsself? I mean obviously there's 10000 ways to build a cage but maybe some of you have tried the way I'm going and have pointers on easyier stuff?

Thanks
mike

1: that's how I did my cage with triangle plates in the little divit points at the front/ sides of the bench. So back from the floor a bit, should give ya the room you need for your seat so far rearward.

2: most cut holes in the rear firewall wall for the tubes to go through to the rear struts, then re plate it. I think legally, you have to do this to have solid down bars.

Perfect! What did you mean by re plate? I was just going to hole saw through the rear firewall only slightly bigger then the dom tube and then just leave it like that.

Thats how i had my cage done, put it on that little elevated area

For the rear i just had mine done as shown, if i were to have a chance to redo it i would cut out the whole rear shelf area out and go straight to the shock tower

That looks like it would be much easyier to add door bars later on (or if I have extra material) if I go to the same spot you did for the main hoop. I really don't want to have to cut out the rear fire wall because I still plan on running rear seats/ interior and I think I should be fine with just hole sawing where I need to. I would much rather weld to the strut tower and then another bar across the struts so that if I got hit there it can't push my tower around and write off the car
