Hi everyone, new to this forum this is my first post. 2005 545i, 60k miles. Went to go top off the coolant today and noticed the top portion of the coolant stick (the portion sitting above the float) was broken. Tried to remove it but I'm stupid and dropped it. The stick sunk to the bottom of the tank. The float is still there, just the stick sunk. All coolant levels are fine according to the system.

Can I drive my car, is this going to get sucked into the cooling system somehow? to be honest, I just don't have the money, time, or know- how to start replacing an expansion tank. Just want to be safe and have piece of mind that this isn't going to cost me more in damages. Has this happened to any of you before and if it did, what was the outcome?

It's a known problem, happened to many people. Replace the coolant tank, less than $50.
That broken piece can pass thru the hoses and up to the radiator and may interfere with the passages in the radiator.
