The Continental DWs (not DWS) came off today... replaced by Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Every time I splurge and buy the Michelin tires, I always tell myself I should just do this every time. Less headaches, less drama.... they just work. When I put the Continental DWs I had to fight tire flex for how many thousand miles before they tightened up and I was no longer fighting the tread squirm. I put the Michelin PSS on today, I left the tire shop with no drama. Felt like they were meant to be on the car. The Continental DWs were good, about $100 less per tire than the Michelin at the time and had good reviews... but what I have learned is that for reviews, it is only talking about when the tire is basically new. They talk nothing of that initial break-in or how they perform when worn. The Continentals were dismal when worn where past experience has shown the Michelins show nice grip till they are almost done.

I've used a variety of tires... normally after I have just burnt through a set of Michelins and I find out how much a new set costs I opt to try something new (Hankook, Toyo, Bridgestone, Continental). I always find myself coming back to the Michelins though, if I am lucky to find them for a good price when I need them versus sometimes nearly twice the price of the competition on your average day. I now have Michelin on all four corners again and I say the car rides great... for the first time in a long time I didn't spend my afternoon sideways driving home in the rain.

Maybe it's because I spent so much... and I'm telling myself they are better, who knows.

I got some Conti dws on the back of my 330. The fronts were Conti Sport Contact. The front and rear were fighting with each other. My tire guy had some used all season Michelin's. I was hoping to get the Pilot A/S 2 instead they were the Michelin's that came on a lot of factory cars. I was really pleased with the level of grip, much more than I thought they would have.

Upon Research, I really like the Bridgestone S-04, Conti Pure Contact, and Michelin A/S 3, they are all much less expensive than the PSS and the A/S 3 was found to have almost the same level of grip. The S-04 are about 97% of the PSS with less cost. The Pure Contact and A/S 3 should last 50% more than the PSS. But the PSS are the ultimate tire.

Last month I put on some Cooper Zeon RS3-A tires. RS3-A ad RS3-S are stock tires for Roush Mustangs. It was a toss up between Conti DWS, Pilots A/S3 3, and these. I decided on the Coopers because they are a one of the top rated consumer report tires, excellent wet/dry traction, long warranty and good price. So far they are very good but I'll have to see how they stack up in the long run.

Hi Kevlar,

Part of the difference you are feeling is between a Max Performance summer tire and an Ultra High Performance all season tire. It is not a fair comparison between the DWS and the Super Sport. Although you can not go wrong with the Super Sport. It is the best that we have driven.

Hi Jim... I was actually referring to the Continental DW not DWS, most post above used DWs as plural more than one. I think both the DW and Pilot Super Sport are considered max performance summer tires.

You are correct, sorry. In our test they just are a notch below the Pilot. You will like those tires.

I am running DW tire in 245/40 right now. And I find that they have a pretty soft sidewall for an Max Performance tire as well. Been Waiting for the glorious summer day where they finally die and I can go for the Michelin Plunge. Good to hear your findings!

I love the Michelin pilot super sports, and if I could get in my size the Michelin's cups that come on the ZR1! Those are from another world ;-)
