Hello everybody, im new here :alright

Anyway, i started noticing little leaks all over where i park and i never though much of them, but one day I went under the car and looked and it turned out to be my differential leaking.

First off - It looks to be a small leak with small drippings, but would it be safe to continue driving it?

- If i were to top off the fluid until i can get it repaired, what type / weight oil do you recommend?

- I found this : http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/maintenance/transmission/Differential_seals.asp but that basically tells me that that is the only place that it can leak - but from what i have seen (havent lifted the car yet) it doesnt appear to be coming from that, it looks more like its from the bottom of the casing.

Any help on this would be appreciated!

Thank you so much!

OK, i got some pictures of whats goin on here.

It looks like the seals that most people talk about being bad look ok. Everything seems to be dry except the underside. It looks as if the diff is two pieces with a gasket in the middle and all the fluid is coming from that.

I would really really really appreciate it if someone could take a look at the pictures i took and try to advise me a little bit.

When oil leaks it can often run along the bottom of a car and end up somewhere else.
You check to see if its your pinion seal ore your rear axle seals. You do seem to have alot of oil there so whatever did go, WENT.

I'm going to have my dad look at the pictures when he gets back from work tonight to see if he can give you any advice. He's a volvo tech and a 15 year BMW owner so he has some knoledge around our cars.
