ok, so im slowly working on this vortech charger for my 36, and i want to have it running spot on before i put the charger on.

the other day i finally got GT1/DIS working with my non ews swap s50b30.

it runs a touch rich, and gets average 12.5l/100k, which drops down to low 11s/high 10s on long highway trips.

pulls hard, idles a bit rough on occasion, but its the only s50 ive driven, so ive got no idea how its supposed to drive at the end of the day.

so, heres a bunch of screenshots after going through the status request and vanos test.

dme is supposed to be chipped when chris at crmtech had the ews removed for me, but ive never popped it apart to look.
o2 sensors were new bosch when motor was installed
vanos i have replaced the filter and done the solenoid orings(original ones looked ok) and the oring on the small 6 bolt cover.
i replaced any vaccum lines that felt dodgy, air pump removed and the vaccum line blocked. oil separator and hoses are all new.

any other information, just ask.

so maf is maybe a bit high?
idle solenoid might be iffy?(was cleaned when motor was installed)
i need to check the plug on my o2 sensor, make sure i plugged it in properly, if not do some testing. im still not sure if theyre plugged into the right plugs. from memory one is brown, one is black on the engine harness? will jump under the car on the weekend and have a look.
vanos is dodgy? not holding position?

anything else we can take from the informaiton above to help me out to get this baby running perfect before i put the charger on

thanks guys, and happy new years

ps. to wet your appetites, a pic from a test fit the other day

ok, so jumped under the car today, and the number 1 o2 sensor wasnt plugged in all the way(damn those twisty plugs and not much room to move).

quick run on DIS and its reading again, and after a drive not throwing any codes. it is fluctuating between ~.1 and .7 volts where number 2 is sitting around ~.43-.44 on idle, but ill give it a few days and check it agian.

maf was showing 16kg/h at ~52deg intake temp, maybe its ok?

any thoughts on the other bits anyone?

anyone got any ideas before i start buying replacement bits unnecessarily? would the drop in timing on the vanos test be internal seals or the accumulator?

Your O2 sensor reading at 0.45V continuous is to be looked at first. Theses sensors are 4 wire, +12V, 0V and 2 wires for heating the sensors during startup, you should check if you get these numbers. If not, then before sensor there is an issue, if not, then change your sensor.

o2 sensor has been sorted as per second post. it wasnt plugged in completely.

Oops my mistake. Vanos seals are cheaper to change than the accumulator, if you need to make a decision.

Very interested in following how your SC'd setup works. I have talked with a number of people about supercharging, and they all seem to want to dissuade me. I am not sure if it is because they feel they will have a harder time tuning the car after, or what.
A centrifugal charger seems like a perfect fit with a Euro spec engine'd car.

cheers. i bought the kit from a guy running it on his euro s50b32, and he had no dramas with it(has since gone turbo though).

it came with a moristech piggyback ecu, which seem to have varied reviews from the small info i could gather. im going to use it, and see how it goes. if i have problems, i might look at changing to something standalone.

in regards to this thread, im currently rebuilding a spare vanos unit, and have bought a new accumulator. i'll retest once theyre both in, and go from there. i may end up buying a new maf sensor when ive got the money spare, just for the hell of it.

oh, and my o2 sensor plug came loose again, so now its being held together with cable ties(just the clips that lock the rotating bit had broken, so it was unscrewing).

I plan to put one on to my S50B30, if it comes down to it. I will likely take the car to a tuner, and have it done once I am finished my build.

How do you plan to connect the charger to the intake manifold?

I am assuming that you are going to be running the MAF before the charger?

If there is any way that you could make some technical drawings of your intake tubes, that would be very good.

What kind of boost level do you expect to have? How much boost and power did it make on the PO's S50B32?

Sorry for all of the questions...... :)

i'll be getting it tuned professionally also, luckily the po left the tune on the ecu, so that should get me driving as a start

yeh, maf will be before charger. ill try and do up some diagrams for you at some stage

ive got 2 pulleys that came with it, one should be good for ~6psi, other ~10-11. po was making 282rwkw on 11psi supposedly, but the piping was all very average, so not sure how much pressure drop/loss he had going on.
