5 series questions ?

Ok i was wondering if you guys were to buy a 5 series what model would you buy ? I really want to keep my 540 i or sell it and get another one depending on how many problems i'll discover today at the mechanic . I already know the power steering needs to be replaced , hoses are bad and its leaking . how much is that to fix? The 540 i runs fine , really FAST! I think its faster then my sisters G35 coupe . Has anyone had any problems with there 540i's? whats the most common problems ? SHould i get a different car? Is it just my 540i or do they get really bad gas milage? I had a full tank 2 days ago , and now today its less then half empty , wow! i think im going to drive me little 318ti when i need money ...... Could you guys tell me what i should do if the suspension . What should i upgrade too if i want to put 20's on ? Thanks :eyecrazy: :eyecrazy:

Agree, No simpathy for people who decides to buy big V8 sedan and whine about gas mileage. For fuel economy stick with 4 bangers. Or better yet, Disel 4 banger:D

Actually the new valvetronic V8's get pretty good gas mileage. About 21 or so on the highway.

i dunno, our 540iA sport (e39) averages a good 22mpg +/- 1.5mpg most of the time with about 70/30 highway/city driving. driving 5 hours down to LA (and averaging speeds in the triple digits on hwy 5) I was able to pull out just over 23mpg. my dad somehow pulls 24mpg when he drives sole highway (albiet he doesn't usually top 90mph)

This is with the sport model.

the non-sport (with a taller diff) should be hitting 25 or so mpg on the highway.

i'm expecting the 545 valvetronic to hit 30mpg highway because of the engine, the 6 spd, and the lighter weight.

for guys that said i was dummy and shouldn't complain about the gas milage , i don't care about that , i have a 318ti that gives me terrific gas milage . i just wanted to see if you think the 540 i is a all around better car then the 530i and 528i . thanks for your comments !

Heh, my 318 isn't even that good on gas. 20~ mpg.

Some new V8's get close to that. My dad's 2003 SL500 gets 18. Our Z8 gets like 17 mpg.

The 318ti i have gets really good gas milage because it is a 4 banger , you can't even compare that to any v8 or v6 . What do you guys think the best 5 series is from the 97 - 2003 .

Our 540 has been flawless... yeah, it burns gas, but it's the price you pay for that power. And yes, the 540 is fast, it's beaten a bunch of cars... namely a E36 M3 and Porsche Boxster S on the highway a few times.

The only thing that has gone wrong is the squeaky clutch pedal syndrome, other than that... it's mint.

I would really try to find a 2002 or 2003 540i sport 6-speed. I believe the 2--3's came with the m-tech kit, which is really nice IMO. Hope this helps.
