Well My i got my M3 today , it's a Euro with S50B30 block and an S50B32 head , it was a 6 spd manual but after the trans. failed the owner fit the 5 spd manual in it since couldn't find parts for the 6spd one .
the car drive smooth , fast and strong , runs pretty well with no vibrations of weird noises ...except one, after noon when i turned the engine , out of nowhere rattling noise appeared, clearly audible from the inside and the outside , so i freaked out thinking that it my be coming from the engine... but it's not cause when i hit the gas and the RPM go higher the noise will not follow the RPM and remain the same.. i floor the clutch pedal also the noise won't go...it's like the noise coming from underneath the driver to the middle area , to not do more harm i turned the engine off and directly before the engine is dead it rattled more and stopped.

i called the guy who sold it to me and said that it's normal , it's because they swapped the 6spd with a 5spd , and most M3's Euro 6spd do rattle sometimes..

i went back to the car , the rattle is still there but this time i drove it , as soon as the car rolled the rattle is gone, i reached a stop sign...but no rattle it disappeared , the car is running and pulling hard....so drove it for 2 hours , no rattle at all or weird things , i parked it , then earlier tonight turned it back on the rattle is there again!

it seems that the rattle exist at idle while the car is a bit cold or not moved and when i turn of the engine , but while driving or stopping at red lights it's not there... could it be true cos of the 6spd swap or something to do with the clutch? and i don't know if it have a light flywheel also...if it helps with the reasons.

i need help...thanks.

I was thinking maybe light weight flywheel like you mentioned, did the PO say anything about it before he sold you the car?

Yes , he told me that it's normal and nothing to worry about , actually when i called him to inform him about this noise he described it to me...it's been there since the light flywheel is installed , but was wondering if there's anything i can do to remove the noise else than changing the flywheel?

The rattling noise might be coming from the gearbox.
To confirm it, do the following:
- Start the car, let it idle
- select neutral, release the clutch - you should hear the rattling noise.
- depress the clutch - the rattling noise should disappear.

If it is as described above, it's normal! Nothing to worry about!

mmm not really , the rattling is there while idling , with or without clutch , im gonna take it to check it and will update you! , it's driving me crazy...the car drives strong with no weird noises or anything , just at idle ( 700 1500 rpms ) i get this weird noise like a piece of metal is lose..we'll c.

thanks and happy new year btw :)

It's solved! it was silly...not the vanos not the clutch not anything mechanical , it was the reinforced chassis under the car hitting the transmission body! im glad that it was simple...it's been tightened and no weird noises or sound at all!

thank you all for your inputs :)
