Talking about the top center climate control dial (the one with the blue and red dots) above the radio/Nav. Mine is difficult to move. It was getting stuck in places and clicking (the dial was like skipping gears as it was forced). The rear climate control works like a charm - smooth as butter on a baby's bottom.
I followed this DIY: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1743853-Heater-blows-cold-air-from-center-vents-only-stratified-air-dial-related
And found that my "gear" was "melted" as well. I say "melted" because it looked melted but I don't believe it was. It had a lot of white lithium grease to give it that appearance, but I believe it is normal. It was just out of place like in the link. Why BMW designed it this way instead of using metal gears is beyond me though. But once aligned correctly, I'm still having a tough time moving the dial without it skipping gears. Are all of your dials as tough to turn as mine is? Or are they smooth like they are supposed to be? Maybe my dial is melted after all? Would be interesting (for me) to see if normal dials are setup this ways as well (but I doubt anyone would take the time to tear apart their glovebox for the sake of my curiosity).
