Hi.

I have a problem with an e60 535D LCI. Today, driving on the highway at about 90 mph with the gearbox in normal auto mode, I tried to floor it, and the revs climbed but the car barely accelerated. When I then switched the gearbox to auto sport, the car accelerated just fine, but switching back to auto again, the car wouldn't accelerate. It felt like the torque converter wouldn't lock up, or something like that... The feeling was like driving a manual car, and not fully releasing the clutch.
When I turned off the highway and switched to normal auto mode again, the car worked fine. No slipping or anything.
The car has just been at a shop because this happened. They ended up changing the turbo actuator I belive, because they said that unit was faulty... And they replaced all the vacuum lines and the particulate filter. It ended up costing around 8.000$, so I'm really not happy with a car that is not working perfectly.

Has anyone else experienced this problem before, or know what could possibly be wrong?

Also, I've heard that it's quite hard to find decent independent garages, who knows how to diagnose problems with these cars correctly. Should I perhaps also try and find a different shop, to fix the car in the future?

Any help is much appreciated! :-)

The first thing i would do is go to BMW and have the cars software fully updated to the latest. This will be an out of pocket expense but worth it since there are fixes for the transmission and other items in there. This is a good baseline and you can address specific issues from there. If you don't do this you have no idea if there is a software patch out there that will resolve your issue and you are spending all this money at an Indy to diagnose. If this is something that directly resulted from your repair, then i would address it with whomever did the repair. You still may be in the same boat with the software though.

The reason i am going right for the software update is there are known patches that have good results with many people with E60's. There are also specific ones that can be applied but you have to ask for them. Like the 2-1 tip in or the hard shifting & acceleration patches. (+21TI or +HADS) will show up in the Vehicle Order.

Thanks a lot Kaineb. I guess I have a bit to look into then :-)

I had slipping of my 535d an also notchy gear changes specially when cold. Was also popping outta gears sometimes.

I was crapping my self.

Went into get box looked at by independent garage
Turned out there was a leak on plastic sumo. Very common issue. An me box was very low. Needed 4.5ltrs of fluid. Now runs beautifully

I'm sorry, but I'm not quite sure, what you mean? :-) A leak from where you say?
