View Full Version : Duraflex GT-S Body Kit???

Hey all, I stumbled upon this body kit manufactured by Duraflex when searching online for various mods for my e39. However, I must say I have yet to see another e39 with this kit driving around, or even on Google images. Is there a reason for this?
It's like $270.00 per front and rear bumper so I would say thats about average quality, no? Anyway, I attached some pics for reference. IMO the bumpers look sick (even though I would lose my front foglights and lose many options for my exhaust with these bumpers) however I'm just concerned if there's a problem with it or some reason why I haven't seen any other e39s with this kit. Anyone who has knowledge of BMW body kits, specifically on e39s, I would appreciate some feedback/advice. Thanks guys.

I'm guessing this is why? Haha I guess it does go against the classic bmw look, but still I was just curious. I guess I'll just go with the m5 body kit like everyone else.. Blahh

Buy it, have everything installed professionally, then drive it off of a cliff. Take pictures of it afterwards and post them in this thread to let us know how the various components held up.

The front is hideous, but I actually quite like the rear (without the wing). It's very similar to the 1M rear end.

Hi,
I think there's worse out there!
The front bumper looks photoshopped on and due to that, it looks like lines and proportions are off. If they took high quality photographs of an actual car fitted up with the bodykit that'd help. The 'intakes' look too big, perhaps 25-35% smaller and it'd be better. The rear bumper and diffuser look better and better 'flow' with the cars lines and I like the side little vents smoothed in.
Not a fan of the wing, and perhaps if the rear diffuser had the cutouts for the left side and/or both sides for the exhaust it'd also look better as well!
Cheers, Dennis!

step 1: sell E39
step 2: buy rusty civic
step 3: apply these type of sh!tty mods to your civic
step 4: fit in like you always wanted

Agreed but only from the rear most profile. Quarter view with the vent on the side sucks.

These comments have certainly assisted me in deciding which body style to go with! Thanks, lol. Think I'll stick to the M5. I guess it was just something different so it caught my eye. However I agree it is very.. Honda-ish.

I decided I'm gonna keep the front bumper stock and just get a new bottom lip for it because the bottom is so scuffed up. But I'm still really considering going with this rear bumper, and having dual exhaust out the central vent. I'll post pics back to this forum if I end up doing so. And if it looks bad, I promise I will post pics of my car after I have driven it off a cliff.

I'll tell you right now, it WILL look bad. With a bumper as aggressive as that, you can't just do the rear bumper and have the rest of the car stock. You car will have to be significantly modified for that rear bumper to look any good on it. It will look completely out of place without supporting mods.
By all means, it's your car and if you like the bumper, do it. Just be aware that your car will look ridiculous with that rear bumper on it and no other modifications.

Who wants to buy my M5 front and rear bumpers when I get this? It'll look so sikh.
In all seriousness, there is worth, but this is.... >_>
I think if the frontend wasn't so big looking it wouldnlt be so bad. Same with the rear except I'd add on exhaust cutouts. Also maybe keep the side mouldings on both front and rear would help flow with the classic e39 lines.

One thing you dont mess with on the E39 is its body. The lines are handsome and classic. There is absolutley no body kit I have seen that makes the car look better than it already does.

Yeah, I really do appreciate the honesty Dat Aus. Sometimes you need other people's perspective on these things. And I agree with you all that I don't want to make the e39 into something it isn't. I wanna respect it I just want to do something..sleek. powerful. something different. Does anyone have any suggestions for what body mods WOULD look "good"? I'm definitely wanting some kind of rear bumper I can do some cool looking exhaust with, and an updated front bumper, possibly the M5 one. Any spoiler or vent ideas? I'm just brainstorming here still. Appreciate all the feedback guys

Just noticed this..pretty sure that front bumper is completely based off this Vorsteiner M3 GTRS5 bumper. The resemblance in every line is almost identical. I suppose that is why it is called the GT-S body kit for e39s? I wanna own one of the newer M3s someday. So sexy.

If you want my advice, the first thing I would do is black kidneys. You would be amazed at how much more aggressive they will make the car look. It's a very cheap, easy mod that can completely change the car. If you want something different but still classy and aggressive, the Alpina front lip looks excellent and isn't very common. You can pick them up on eBay for about $100 (replica), but I'm not sure what the quality is like.

Other than that, just a nice set of wheels and some new springs to give it a bit of a drop and it will look fantastic. Look at Varrstoen for reasonably inexpensive wheels that are meant to be quite decent quality, or check the classified section for a set of used wheels. Lowering springs can be had for just a few hundred.
I get the impression from your first post that you're on a bit of a budget. Everything I just mentioned is reasonably inexpensive. The wheels obviously being the most expensive mod.

You have not seen it because it try's to make the car something its not. Huge scoops like that are not that good looking on a E39 IMO.
Plus the fit cant be any better than the worst fitting kit so good luck getting it to fit without some serious reworking.

Yeah I am currently in college so money is an issue right now for sure lol. You got some cool ideas, I'll definitely look at that Alpina bumper. But on the subject of wheels: how do I give the car a wider stance. Like I was thinking of putting spacers on the rear wheels the give it that wide look but something about that just doesn't seem safe. Should I get bigger wheels that are staggered and stick out more? Thanks

If your wheels "stick out" you have the wrong offset. Might as well get some center cap spinners.... If you have your heart set on it, then you should have some custom fenders flairs made (or widebody kit). But let's start over and try to not molest this car too much so we don't ask you to burn it to the ground.
Want the rear to look wider? Do you have staggered front and rear wheels or square? You can achieve that look with proper offsets - 18x9-9.5's in the back....might get 18x10's to fit depending on tire size, suspension height, offset...and maybe a fender roll.

I Dont care what any of the BMW purists say or think, the Duraflex GT-S body kit transforms the E39 into one sweet ride.
Don't listen to others, be your own person and do what you like, its your car and you should like it.
I'm glad not everyone has one, at least I don't look like the 9 million other BMW's on the road, mine is unique and I have received a ton of compliments on it at all the car shows.

i'm honestly curious about the durability of these things.
if its fiberglass, won't it be overly flexible and really really fragile?

Very fragile. Fragile like only good for a year or two before chips, cracks, and large sections of the bumper begin tearing itself off. I've had a fiberglass bodykit one time in my life, and it will be the last for sure.
Honestly I don't think it looks too terrible if it's done right. But I'll say this- "I've seen worse."
