Gas lid compartment rust

How do you deal with gas lid compartment rust? Do paint over after cleaning the rust out. Is there a practice to be followed? It kind of sucks that this is the only problem I see with this chassis.

Common problem, clean the rust off , then use Por 15. Then paint it.

Whilst you're in there, carefully examine the hinge. They do break, and if it does, you'll lose the door and need to get a new door have it painted to match.

Why didn't the Krauts provide a drain hole!!?? Dumb!
