so im not the only one having a bad day. This morning I was driving through a construction zone on the highway going the speed limit when apparently I ran over a barbed metal pole and these were the results. I skid across two lanes then coming to a complete stop. all I heard was a pop lol. looks like I need new door trim pieces, and new side skirt as well

It was a pôle they place on the ground when pouring concrete. That medium thickness metal pole

Dude, if you were going really fast this could have been terrible. Glad your ok. Sad thing is someone left that out there or it fell off a construction truck. Hopefully your insurance will cover it.

I would contact the construction company and ask for reimbursement....

Need proof to do that, i couldnt really get proof on whoever dropped the pole etc. It would be very difficult

I'm really not trying to be stupid about this, but do you have an example pic you could link to? I've seen concrete poured before but it usually involves forms, not poles. Wooden shapes that form the container that the concrete is poured into. I've seen rebar inside the concrete, but I've never seen a pole on the ground for pouring concrete.
Seriously, I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, just genuinely curious.

You would be surprised - try nicely first, then get a lawyer to write a letter. They usually will listen they have insurance as well.............

You went through a construction zone and ran over an item that that construction company was probably using? Sounds like an easy win for you. Give it a shot, it's worth the trouble.

sorry to heard about it but is true, if you approach the contrucction company or the DOP, they might pay for the repairs, when I was station in philly, I used to drive to new york on the weekends, one night on the way back to philly, there was a dead deer on the road, I ran over and busted the front tire, i made it to the rest stop and told one of the gas attendant what happen, he directed me to the office and i had to fill some paper work out, got a new tire and the labor paid by the new jersey turnpike.
try it the only thing they can said is no.

I believe he is speaking of "Rebar" like this http://www.mcrlumbercorp.com/rebar.html I ran over one a few years ago and put a nice hole in my gas tank, NY DOT said, not our problem, be more careful........

I also say try to get their insurance to cover it. A few years back I drove behind a truck hauling dirt and it sprayed my car with rocks, and insurance repainted my entire car. Didn't cost me a penny. (In fact, they ended up GIVING ME $1250 because they were going to replace one of my windows that had a small scratch but couldn't find one, so they just gave me the money. It was amazing.) It never hurts to try.

At least you may have someone to go after to reimburse. Sucks about the damage but hey, it's a car and accidents happen.
I ran over a bag of dry cement and ruined my oil pan, damaged the front lip and even the oil pump took a hit on the 750il. I was lucky to be the fifth car to hit it and only suffer minor damage. Source of the bag unknown and insurance declined claim. At least you have a place you can seek reimbursement I hope.

I guesz it all depends on your insurance company and policy. I've seen customers paid for exactly that type kf thing resulting in blown engines and transmissions.

thanks Michael, yea im glad I didn't speed there. on the positive side I got to see how my style 95's look lol
I don't think it will be very expensive to repair either way, just a new tire, maybe update my side skirts with post facelift and new door trim all around.

ya, youll be fine!!
Cronos, I would say give it a shot with the insurance company!!
My experience: Headed I-20 eastbound in my 02 Harley Davidson F150(lowered) doing about 60-65 mph. I go to change lanes and bam, someone did not secure their load and allowed the of a 55gal. metal door from a barbeque grill come to rest on the interstate. Immediately, smoke, steam, antifreeze and oil poured from my engine. I coasted to the shoulder of the interstate, called AAA and had it towed home. This door ripped out the intercooler heat exchanger, the oil filter, the oil cooler and adapter. I decided to make a claim with SF and to my surprise, they covered the damage. Total damage was north of $3K.
Well being no stranger to car repair, I decided to repair the truck myself. It was a simple repair. At least I thought. After replacing the parts, it was time to fire her up. She appeared to want to crank but not fully. She had sat for awhile, so I decided the battery must be discharged. So I tried again, but this time I use my Sears car charger\starter to get her to fire. This time she would not turnover at all. At this point something told me to look in the radiator reservoir. Surprise, CHOCOLATE MILK!!! Far more damage than I initially thought. I contacted SF again, they said have it towed to one of their certified vendors(Ford Dealership) for an inspection. Result, engine siezed up. The end result of it all, the value of the truck vs. amount to get it repaired allowed me to fly just under 80%(71% total damages) total value of the truck. SF paid a total of just over $8K to repair my Harley.
Some would say this does not make good financial sense. I agree. However their is an outlier. I just purchase the truck in April. This happened in August. This is simple math, SF would either pay the balance of what I owe on the truck or pay the amount it cost to repair the truck. They chosed the lesser of the two. So Cronos, I don't know your exact circumstances, but I would strongly suggest you make a claim to ge the E38 repaired!!!!!!!!!!

Worst thing I ever saw between an accidentally dropped piece of random garbage in the middle of the road and a motor vehicle was the time I found a guy in a honda accord in the middle of memorial drive in cambridge (Boston) at like 11pm. Radiator and everything under the car ripped out and bleeding. It wasn't well lit there so I walked back up the road to see what he hit.
Turns out it was a smallish Franklin stove. Cast iron... must have weighed 300lbs. That thing wasn't moving for anyone, sure as hell killed the crap ou t of that accord.
