Hey guys - just an update, the mechanic called the warranty company (GLOBAL WARRANTY) and said that the warranty covers 3000 dollars of repair at a 150 dollar deductible for the tranny ...

I asked them to give me an estimate of how much it would cost before i take the car in - they said they cannot do that as there are too many variables they are working with?!?!? - I'd assume the tranny is the only variable so just quote me a price already - used replacement - or repair?~!?! how tough is that really ?

they said I will have to bring the car in and then have them run diagnostics to see what the problem is and where and then they can look to source parts or a whole used transmission or whatever it is that will have to be done - thats the only time they can give me an estimate....

I have been putting this off for a while but my thoughts are why not do it while under warranty when i can and not worrying about having to fish the money from my pocket after the warranty ends..

what is a reasonable cost for a tranny repair now a days? what about replacement?

I'm in the toronto area and dont mind getting a few estimates before having this job done

car just turned 200,000km... dont think the tranny has ever been opened before - car drives perfectly fine - just has the once in a blue moon clunk or jerk while coasting I believe while shifting down in auto. and then she also doesnt accelerate like she used to - like the engine keeps revving if im over 120-140km the rpms dont go ahead of 3-4k and acceleration isnt the same - like its trying to find something but not engaging - difficult to explain... lots of people have told me its the TC.

any thoughts?

I had my tranny rebuilt last year. Cost was $2700 but I think it does depend on what has to be done. Cost could be a lot more or less. If you trust the tranny shop it would be in your best interest to get the car to them so they can give you a better assessment.

Mustafa, I would take it to Toronto Automatic Transmissions, they are ZF rated company and know what they are doing.

I had mine rebuilt for $1,800 cash.

I think you should be able to fit a full rebuild of everything in at under $3000.

As I mentioned. $2700 was my cost last November but prices are going to vary.

Yeah I'm quoted like 2400 for a rebuild here at a zf certified shop so once mine takes a dump if it ever does its going rhere. I'm sure they will do it for 2gs
