How long should it take to replace the lower oil pan gasket? I am doing an oil change as well.

Depends on how easily the old gasket comes off. But 5 minutes to drop the pan another 5 to put it back together once you get the old gasket off and everything cleaned up.

Exactly as toomann said, actually replacing the gasket can be done as fast as you can sit in on there and do up the bolts... it's removing the old one that does your head in. Just need to get a scraper or something similar and really put your back into it.

Did they use the cork gasket on ALL E38 oil pans, or did they switch to the metal & rubber one at a certain year? Never did find that out.
