ignition problem

Hi All

today shut engine down and the ignition lights stayed on

all systems where working and the stop lights where on with the keys out of the ignition but engine would not start

disconnected the battery afterwards engine started but same happened when i took the keys out of the ignition

can anyone tell me whats wrong how to fix it

Local BMW dealership can't see me for 10 days

is car safe to keep disconnecting the battery

I wonder what happened to the good ole days where turning the key started the engine and turning off the ignition meant turning the key to the off position and and pulling the key out.

Disconnecting the battery would not normally turn your car off as your car is normally running on the alternator. I suspect your start stop button is not de-actuating the relay that turns off the ignition.
