What oil should I use on my 2004 e61 545i sport

Hi my car is coming up for a service and wondering what oil I should use seems to be mixed views on this I was thinking of using 0w30 fully synthetic not sure what oil was used in the last service it was at 77000 miles as don't trust any other garage to do apart from a friends and like to do the work my self make sure every thing is ok ie know doggie work thanks

I use 5w-30 canola oil from the local grocery store, been running strong for many miles!

Dude that "canola oil" answer is getting old, isnt funny anymore. The guy just wants an advice about the motor oil.

Use Castrol full synthetic 5w 30. No reason to use anything other than what BMW recommends

Using BMW recommended Castrol synthetic 0W-30 is certainly a safe place to start. If you do decide to use another brand of oil make sure it meets the BMW LL-01 spec. Definitely use a TRUE synthetic if at all possible.
