Driving my friends M5 (2003) on the way to the lake for a day of sun and skiing. We are on a rural 3 lane highway (2 lanes going our direction) and notice a guy and his son (probably 14 years old) in their e500 sport, I dunno how old it was, his validation sticker on license plate only had 1 month left but can't be sure how long he has had the car. The kid keeps looking at the M like "wow, dad let's race!" I had four people total in the car all who are eating KFC and sippin' soda too. As we pull up to a light which then yields about 1/2 mile of open staight away after the light, I roll down the window and say to the kid " hey buddy, think your dad wants to give it go?" The dad looks at the son with a smile and then before you know it the opposite light is yellow! And I am not even in race ready mode (not in gear, sitting in neutral) and none of the passengers are paying attention either! I yell to the back "Hold on to you Fried chicken we are about to take off! Holy crap the light turns green, I hear the benz squawkin right off the line, and I am still not given the clearance to take off by the rest of my friends... finally as he is on the other side of the int. I launch hard and nearly perfect as there is absolutely no tire squeek and just thrusts everyone back into their seat! I make significant gains on him within the first few hundred feet and he is still floorin it (his rear end is sunk way down) I go through 2nd... rev match... sucks into 3rd floor it... and... I am gone! 4th gear we are at about 95 starting to let off and I am about 2 car lengths in front of him. I let them pull past and the kid's eyes are like real big and he has got the biggest smile on his face... both of them give a thumbs up... everyone in our car does the same. This was a real nice way to start off the day and was nice to see a young guy enjoy the company of his father in that type of setting...
Anyway the benz was a real nice looking car and pretty quick too... but no match for an M5 with a decent driver...
Btw... I have considered the possibility that he knew as he took off that I wasn't ready to launch and he wanted to make a more interesting race and thus allowed us to catch up.. but I don't think that is 100% the case here!

:bs:

I call BS.. No m5 owner would allow someone to eat in the car, much less
greasy chicken!!! Sike man good kill..

you rev matched a car that wasn't even yours? Kind of risky and outlandish in my opinion, but I won't call BS on this one.

I'm still stuck on the part about KFC in the car!

You can beat those e500 with your M3 with no problem... nice kill

:nono  :nono

There is no way you "rev matched" if you were at wot in 2nd gear into your third gear shift. Your rpm would not have dropped enough between those type of shift to necessitate rev matching. You MAY have been lazy on the clutch in your 3rd gear shift and ridden the hell out of it (aka) smoked it real good.

Eating KFC in the car - you should be shot:D

The believable part of the story is that the M took the e500.

was this the new E500 or the 500 E?

anyhow good race but kinda hard to beleive you still beat him with that head start he had ...

madmguy

the car belongs to a spine surgeon... he doesn't care about cars at a has ll! Infact he says he will just beat the crap out of it and then buy a new whatever... these folks have a lot of nice things... not cars though just an sc 430 and this M5 but they have art in their house that could buy several M5's ... anyway yeah I miss used "rev match" I just meant that the shifting was real quick and literally flawless... not to boast or anything just facts, I have been driving stick since I was 11 years old... my family (grandather and uncles are all mechanics and when my grandpa was alive they raced Lemans style club racing when I was a small boy ) i have been taught well that is all.
back to the M5 it is a really amazing car, however they have had it for one year now and it has 13k and they drive it in the winter, in the snow, never wash it, don't give a flying F*** about it! It makes me and all of my friends who know them really heartbroken... but who cares ya know they can plainly afford to do whatever they like... I happen to be a lucky person who gets to drive the car b/c none of the boys (there are three) one is my best friend who cannot even drive stick! I am jokingly reffered to as the family "chauffer" because anytime they want to go for a cruise in the car they let me drive it! it is really quite funny any ways
I never even went over 4500 rpm until fourth gear anyway... seriously I am just saying that the car moved through the gears so crispply it was like a suction feeling
when I would essentially "power shift"

madmguy
04-29-2004, 05:25 PM
it was an e500 sport looked pretty new but I dunno how new I know very little about Mercz-benz cars
oh and his head start was maybe about 25 feet and I dunno if he let off to let me catch up for his sons sake of seeing the M5 blow past

Ask them if I can have an M5 too. I'll take an Alpine White one with sport interior.:D

I'm getting hungry now... :D

i think after a while, it's not about who kills who, it's about just happy to ride in style (and eating KFC) and still be fast.

I never even went over 4500 rpm until fourth gear anyway

that's barely getting on it when the thing red lines at around 6500.

I shift casually at 4,000 in my 3 series and I've driven an 01 M5 (when I was appraising one for trade in). 4500 is MELLOW compared to 6,000 on that car.

I'm calling B.S.http://www.bimmerforums.com/vb3images/smilies2/bsflag.gif

between the whole rev matching bit and the fact that you claim to have not gone over 4500 RPM's until 4th really makes it hard for me to believe you

On your worst day, that M5 could smoke that mercedes, but not in the way you described

too bad mitch that you drive a vw and are thus by rule of default not allowed to call bs here'
ohhh sorry pal but everything here is as valid as I can describe it on a computer considering that this occurred months ago well before I owned an M3 before I joined Bf soooooo....
get a life buddy!

like I said... the guy most likely realized that he was way out front and probaly allowed me to catch up for the benefit of creating an amusing event
this was all for the kid man, remember the kids man...
haha no hating allowed btw
I used to have a vw
'91 jetta gli
nice car and all but you can't tell me how to drive an M5... I drive it all the time
If you are ever in the Midwest just holla and we will give it a go... i will have you beat within 20 feet gwaranteeed

mitchelrl

I gave the volkswagon to my Aunt about 4 months ago, heh.

I drive a 325i, I used to have a vw.

I'm sorry, but "racing" and not going past 4500 RPM's on an M freaking 5 isn't even racing. You said you floored it... 4500 RPM's is hardly flooring it. and Rev matching second gear and not going past 4500 RPM's....Hrrrmmmm, I smell B.S. I was being nice and polite about this until now.

Obviously I can tell you how to drive an M5 since you don't understand the concept of hitting the redline and shifting.

I have no reason to go to the boondox of the midwest and I certainly wouldn't go there to race you. If you're only shifting at 4500 RPM's, it will take more than 20 feet to beat me

As for getting a life, I have one. And mine doesn't consist of pretending to be something I'm not on an internet forum. Poser.

yeah who is gettiing upset here? i think you take this forum a wee bit too seriously
besides my story was meant to evoke a nostalgic feeling of how nice it is that this kid was getting to spend time with his dad and enjoying driving fast... the fact that you cannot circumnavigate the minutia of the story which actually is bs because I cannot recall every detail of the story that happened last year,... the point here was of a nice exchange with some people on a sunny afternoon on the way to the lake to go skiing! yikes man you may have some malfunctioning in your programming if you must castigate someone for what you perceive as "incorrect data" whoa I am sorry I will never post again unless I have video documentation that would make you happy... hehe
you are cool I wish we could hang out you could probably teach me a thing or two

had a feeling that posting on this forum could produce some small minded retorts... guess I learned my lesson
there are lots of cool people on this forum
I have been watching it for a few months then decided to actually join when I got an M3... never really wanted to post anything though because I constistently noticed how some people verify the Malthusian theory with their very strange behavior
I will resist posting any more on here it just is not much fun
too bad because it should be fun but certain individuals must use this platform to exhaust their testosterone reserves... for it is quite apparent who amongst us have healthy sexual lives...

for some of you calling BS, he could have just made a mistake, sometimes when i gun it, i dont necessarily glance over at the rpms, but just sorta just take a peek out of teh corner of my eye, my guess is he took it up to 5k maybe?

You can shift solely off of sound and feel, no need to glance at the tach. 5k is still short for an M5.

Raise your hand if you've driven an M5 and taken it on the Onramp. *Raises his hand*. Owners of M5's please chime in at any time.

Shifting at 4500 on that thing is something that I did when casually driving around town in it. Being a 6 speed and shifting at 4,500 RPMs you're barely in any of the gears if you're "flooring" it. You're not even using anything close to it's full potential...Check out this Dyno Graph

http://www.europeancarweb.com/tech/0310ec_techbmw09_z.jpg

4,500 RPM's doesn't even do that damn car justice.

Shifting at 4,500 RPM's up until 4th gear would just be bogging it down. You'd almost spend more time shifting than actually climbing through the gear range.

He claims to know how to drive an M5, when it's obvious from his own words he doesn't have a damn clue. It's not even his damn car, heh.

And if he isn't pathetic enough...he starts bringing my sex life into the picture. You being a little dumbass has no bearing on my sex life, nor will it ever.

I'm done with this little kid, I'll let someone who owns an M5 to shed some light on this bullshit fest.

mitchelrl is true to some extent. Don't forget that M5 has plenty of torque up to 4.5k and I gotta say you can get moving even if you shift at 4500rpm, but after 5k thats where the car really shines.

btw. I have an M5 so I'm speakin from experience =)

Nice kill but I i gotta say that you shouldn't let people eat in the M5 (or any nice car for that matter).

madmguy

LIKE I SAID MITCH... this was not... i repeat not a race! it was an exhibition of sorts to make a kid smile... OK?
So... I can drive a 5... according to all who know me... very well
so piss off wanker/// this was a nice respectable story until you had to stick your little prick into it... I didn't want to red line the car because there are FOUR other people inside who are along for a nice ride to the lakehouse, not to go balls to the wall... yikes man I do not need to see your little DYNO chart
I have driven the car hard plenty of other times just this time was a nice story and that is all I am stating
many here know that the M can take an e500 not a problem... I wasn't positing that I had just turned water into wine
see the problem here is that you probably just hover around these forums waiting in the shadows for any little discrepenc you can find and then spout off about how you can disprove it
I thought some of us on the forum could appreciate the message of the story and I wasn't even trying to portray a technically accurate side cuz it doesn'y matter... duh the matchup between the cars is not a tough one buddy
like I said you are cool and I wish I could be your friend that would make me feel better, cuz then all would hail at your marvelous mastery of car knowledge
HAH

Hrrm, Lets see how many contradictions I can find in your posts from this thread alone.

I yell to the back "Hold on to you Fried chicken we are about to take off! Holy crap the light turns green, I hear the benz squawkin right off the line, and I am still not given the clearance to take off by the rest of my friends... finally as he is on the other side of the int. I am gone! 4th gear we are at about 95

annnnd

I didn't want to red line the car because there are FOUR other people inside who are along for a nice ride to the lakehouse, not to go balls to the wall

So...Help understand how going 95 from a dead stop is a nice ride to the lakehouse.

LIKE I SAID MITCH... this was not... i repeat not a race! it was an exhibition of sorts to make a kid smile... OK?

Yet, this is posted in the Kill Section....

...

launch hard and nearly perfect as there is absolutely no tire squeek and just thrusts everyone back into their seat! Yet, you "Floored it"

I go through 2nd... rev match... sucks into 3rd floor it

yeah I miss used "rev match" I just meant that the shifting was real quick and literally flawless

which was said after 4-BNGR called you on it.

So... I can drive a 5... according to all who know me... very well

annnnd

I happen to be a lucky person who gets to drive the car b/c none of the boys (there are three) one is my best friend who cannot even drive stick!

Yet these kids some how know that you're a good driver considerring they don't even know how to drive a stick.. Makes their opinions very credible.

you are cool I wish we could hang out you could probably teach me a thing or two

Wow, you're right for once.

then go on to post these consecutively..Without any reply from anyone else in between them...
