Hey this is my first post on here. I bought a 2005 545i BMW 6 speed manual, 6 months ago. The car is a beauty, dark olive green exterior and red leather interior, my dream car. I bought it with 80000 miles and it now has 92000. It has been a night mare almost. This was my first BMW and understand a high performance car required high performance maintenance, but everything ended up going wrong it seemed. I bought the car and next day Passenger Restraint System" malfunction came on, i never did anything about it heard it was a expensive fix. Let me state between all the repairs your about to here this car drove like a smooth and amazing driving machine, but here is where the troubles starts. About, a month about a month after i bout it, I ended putting two new tires v 12 tires on the back. From day one at around 70 mph there is a slight vibration with the car, wheels are staggered. Soon after i have to replace brakes and rotor's. Then i have to replace control arms and have the alternator rebuilt. when i get back from a short trip after this was done, the car once completely shut off while going 30 mph on a back road. The windows, power steering, and electrical components didn't work, but i luckily just reared over and turned ignition off and turned on and it started up.then car starts sputtering and the pistons misfiring in the morning especially, so the car then needs spark plugs, 8 of them, and ignition coil. Then car starts shaking and sputtering during cold starts. Local shop working on it takes it to local bmw dealership they say its the alternator. Replaced with REMAN ALTERNATOR from NAPA, part number 213-9735. I get car today and it starts sputtering and reving up and down, and the lights interior lights flicker in a parking lot, but drives fine after. this car is in the shop half the time, anyone know what the main issue could be, or a way to fix it. I have spent alot of money id say im in 16000 dollars. If anyone has advice I would appreciate because at this point I almost half to sell it.

Replace your battery.

Yeah, ditto on the battery replacement. These cars can act very strangely if your battery is getting flaky.

As the guys are saying get a new battery and also change the charging relay in the trunk fuse box. these cars demand alot of power to operate. With new alternator ,battery and relay the electrical system will be in top shape, and all those screwy electrical issues will go away. The trick to a 545 is to stay on top of all the maintanence. keep all the fluids changed frequently. Like most used cars u have to take care of a few things to get it in good running condition.
