View Full Version : 2008 528i: Strong Gas Smell Inside & Out of Car / Help Interpreting O2 Report

Hey Guys -

So my wife has a 2008 BMW 528i. For the past couple of months, you can smell gas when outside of the vehicle. We just moved into a new apartment which has an adjacent garage and when parked in it, the whole apartment even starts to have a gas smell!

Besides this, the only other thing acting up is that at idle the steering wheel vibrates a bit more than normal. It isn't violent, but more than it should be.

After checking a few things, I remembered that I have a bluetooth ODB-II sensor which works with my new phone. I was able to connect and run tests using Torque Pro. It didn't show any error codes at all - but - I did perform a test on the O2 sensor where 2 of the tests failed. At the end of this post are the complete results with the failed ones in bold.

Does anyone have any ideas what the issue could be? I removed the back seat and looked around the fuel pump (without taking anything out) but didn't see anything abnormal nor smell fuel more so in that area. I've read that it could be a blockage in the CCR, too, and even an issue with the head gasket. I was hoping that if it was too serious, that at least a code would appear.
